The Dong Da Hill Festival, also known as the Victory Festival, is not only an event honoring the contributions of King Quang Trung in the resistance against the Qing army, but also an occasion to rekindle national pride and indomitable spirit. Every year, on the 5th day of the Lunar New Year, Hanoi residents and visitors from all over gather at Dong Da Hill, Quang Trung Ward, Dong Da District to immerse themselves in the solemn and vibrant atmosphere, recalling the heroic victory on this historical land. Located in the heart of the capital, Dong Da Hill is a vivid testament to the glorious history of the Vietnamese people in their struggle to defend the country, carrying within it profound cultural, spiritual, and national identity values.

The festival space seemed to come alive with new energy as solemn rituals were performed one after another. From early morning, a procession set off from Khuong Thuong communal house amidst the sacred ceremony of carrying the palanquins of King Quang Trung and Queen Ngoc Han. The procession, with the participation of village elders, symbolized reverence for the heroes who sacrificed themselves for the country. The procession moved slowly through the streets, filled with the vibrant colors of flags and the resounding sounds of drums and gongs. All these elements blended together to create a solemn and moving cultural scene, captivating the attention and respect of locals and tourists alike.

As the procession reached Dong Da Hill, the ceremony continued with the offering of incense and the reading of speeches, a solemn ritual that further enhanced the sacred atmosphere. At the foot of the Quang Trung monument, the leaders of Dong Da district and the people respectfully offered incense, commemorating the national hero and the Tay Son army who wrote a glorious chapter in history during the spring of the Year of the Rooster (1789). The speech recalled the victory at Ngoc Hoi - Dong Da, evoking pride and reminding everyone of the importance of national unity. In that moment, each person felt as if they were reliving historical moments, sensing the courage and resilience of their ancestors through each moving word.

The festival part of the Dong Da Hill Festival is where excitement and joy spread. The opening drum dance and captivating dragon dances add to the lively and bustling atmosphere. Traditional folk games such as wrestling, cockfighting, and tug-of-war are organized, bringing joy and excitement to everyone. In particular, the Tay Son martial arts demonstration, symbolizing the chivalrous spirit of the ancient Tay Son army, becomes the highlight of the festival. The graceful and powerful martial arts matches, accompanied by the powerful drums and cheers of the audience, recreate the indomitable spirit and unwavering will of that glorious era.

One of the unique highlights is the folk art performances recreating history, presented by artists from the Vietnam Cheo Theatre. Scenes of King Quang Trung and the Tay Son army's march, from their swift steps to the battle scenes, are elaborately staged, helping viewers visualize the glorious victories of the nation. The stage recreates images of our ancestors bravely fighting on the battlefield, not just a performance but also an epic hymn praising the patriotism, unity, and courage of the Vietnamese people.

The Dong Da Hill Festival is an occasion to commemorate the contributions of King Quang Trung and other national heroes, and also an opportunity for the community to rekindle the flame of national pride.
