Speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, Head of the Permanent Delegation of Vietnam to the United Nations, emphasized that for Vietnam and many other countries, tea is not only associated with traditional culture but also contributes to economic and trade development and efforts to implement the Sustainable Development Goals.
Tea is a source of livelihood, employment and income for many poor rural people and households. Sustainable tea cultivation and production can also help maintain biodiversity, prevent soil erosion and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Above all, to optimize the potential of tea and contribute to sustainable development, it is necessary to increase investment to support small businesses, promote inclusive business models, ensure working conditions for workers and environmental sustainability throughout the value chain.

Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang shared that Vietnam is one of the top 5 countries in tea export output, mainly black tea, green tea and scented tea, consumed in more than 70 countries across all continents. In the domestic market, the green tea leaves have brought high revenue to farmers, contributing greatly to socio-economic development. Many tea farms also attract tourists to learn about Vietnamese culture. Currently, the Vietnamese tea industry is also prioritizing the promotion of sustainable production and consumption, applying science and technology in cultivation and production.
The Head of the Vietnamese Delegation pointed out that International Tea Day is not only an opportunity for countries to share traditional values, but also helps connect across borders and contribute to accelerating the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, while affirming the commitment to ensuring that the benefits of tea are shared fairly and sustainably.
