The construction of the national flagpole is part of a series of activities to celebrate the 133rd birthday of President Ho Chi Minh by Vietnam's Level 2 Field Hospital No. 4 at the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in South Sudan.
At the flagpole area, the red flag with yellow star of Vietnam flies next to the United Nations flag. The project is also a meaningful symbol to affirm Vietnam's participation and contribution to the United Nations peacekeeping mission, while honoring the national pride of the Vietnamese blue beret soldiers. This will be a "check-in" destination and souvenir photo shoot for international guests and friends, local people, and patients coming to the hospital for examination and treatment.
The flagpole is located in the middle of the facade at the entrance to the working area of Level 2 Field Hospital No. 4. The construction not only beautifies the landscape of the hospital campus, creating a good impression on international friends and colleagues, but also contributes to encouraging and motivating the spirit of Vietnamese blue beret soldiers, always trying to complete their tasks well to make the national flag more colorful in a special area, where countries stand side by side to bring a better life to the people.
The idea of building a flagpole was nurtured by the hospital's Board of Directors since the early days of taking over the unit from the previous echelon. Lieutenant Colonel Vu Minh Duong, Director of the Hospital, said that since the idea was proposed, members of the unit have enthusiastically responded and actively participated in its implementation. The design, preparation and collection of materials and site were carried out by the women's group, youth union and the unit over a long period of time, because there were no available construction materials in Bentiu. "The project was rushed and completed at a meaningful time, bringing an exciting and enthusiastic atmosphere to the entire unit," shared Dr. Vu Minh Duong.
At the inauguration ceremony of this meaningful project, Major General Emmanuel Rugazora, Commander of the Unity Military Region, South Sudan, highly appreciated the initiative of Vietnam's Level 2 Field Hospital No. 4; congratulated the Vietnam Field Hospital for its active and highly effective operations during the past term.
Major General Rugazora sent his best wishes to the hospital staff and the Vietnamese people on the occasion of the birthday of President Ho Chi Minh - National Liberation Hero, World Cultural Celebrity admired by the people of South Sudan and Africa.
