Inauguration of 2 bridges under the project "Building bridges to school"

Nam Ban and Nam Hang are two communes in the particularly difficult area of Nam Nhun district, Lai Chau province. The population is sparse, with ethnic minorities accounting for 95%. The terrain is strongly fragmented by streams and creeks, making transportation difficult, especially during the rainy season. More than 1,200 students, children and teachers at the schools have to pass through dangerous areas every day that do not ensure drainage, and landslides and faults often occur during the rainy season. Not only do these roads affect the learning and teaching process of teachers and students, they also pose many potential risks of accidents for local people and passing vehicles.

The two spillway bridge projects have been inaugurated, with a total cost of VND2.1 billion, of which VND1.7 billion was donated by Grab Vietnam and Grab users, along with VND400 million in counterpart funds from the locality. Upon completion, the project will help more than 7,000 students, teachers and residents of Nam Ban and Nam Hang communes travel safely and conveniently, creating conditions for trade of goods to develop the local economy more positively.

Mr. Alejandro Osorio, CEO of Grab Vietnam, shared: "The two bridges will have an even more special meaning when they are inaugurated on the occasion of the New Year 2024, helping students and teachers get to school more safely, especially during the rainy season. With the mission of Grab for the Community that we are committed to implementing in Vietnam, Grab will continue to coordinate with agencies to implement more community projects, contributing to improving the quality of life of all people."

Within the framework of the project "Building bridges to school", up to now, the Vietnam Children's Fund and Grab Vietnam have built and put into use 8 bridges for people, including two bridges in Vinh Long, two bridges in Ha Giang, one bridge in Tien Giang, one bridge in Quang Tri and two bridges in Lai Chau.
