Books become symbols
Models of Uncle Ho's Mausoleum, the National Assembly building, the Tam Quan gate, the Victory tower, the Khmer pagoda model, the lighthouse, the logo... are all vividly simulated through the creativity and meticulous arrangement of hundreds of different books by the library staff. From those skillful hands, vivid, soulful, artistic and meaningful art models have been created, impressing the public.
Having worked at the library for many years and participated in many activities, Ms. Nguyen Thi Men - Deputy Head of the Technical - Professional Department of the Provincial Library is passionate about turning stacks of books quietly on the shelves into works of art. As a person who is diligent in researching and learning, Ms. Men has succeeded with many impressive book stacking models. To have ideas to create unique models, Ms. Men consults documents, symbolic images, logos through books, newspapers, and the internet. From initial visualization and sketching to implementation, depending on the size and detail of the model, some models take from several hours to several days to complete. Depending on the topic, the corresponding model will be selected. Not limited to any model, Ms. Men continuously creates and innovates book stacking models, trying to create many rich and new models. Because according to Ms. Men, creating artistic models from books is also a way to attract more readers to books.
According to Ms. Men, artistic book arrangement requires artistic thinking, aesthetic sense, creativity and meticulousness. The model book arrangement must be suitable for the theme, space and time, and the propaganda object. An artistic book arrangement model needs to ensure the criteria of diverse book documents and genres in harmony with the display theme. Along with that, the color of the book cover must also match the simulated objects and works. For models that need to be soft, choose thin, soft-cover books, otherwise choose thick, hard-cover books. "Sometimes I have to do it over and over again about 10 times to get a satisfactory, beautiful, and harmonious model. To make the model more vivid, I have to make some accessories and accompanying details to complete the model," Ms. Men shared.
Attract readers
At the festival commemorating the 65th anniversary of the sacrifice of People's Armed Forces Hero Mai Thi Nuong, the staff of the Provincial Library arranged the model "Flower of Gratitude". While arranging the books, Ms. Men shared the meaning of the model: "With this model, the library will arrange the books into a model of a large blooming flower, with a photo of People's Armed Forces Hero Mai Thi Nuong in the center; accompanied by 2 additional models of 2 newly blooming flower buds for display, with the desire to express gratitude, to show gratitude to the hero who sacrificed for the country".
Arranging books artistically is like the author putting the soul of art into his books. Each model is an interesting story about the value of books with its own message and meaning. Artworks from books inspire interest and passion for reading, contributing to the development of reading culture in the community. Towards the 80th anniversary of the successful August Revolution and National Day September 2, with nearly 300 books, Ms. Men and the library staff created a model of "Victory Tower" to express gratitude, joy and national pride. The model is impressive, attractive, attracting the public and readers to come and take souvenir photos. After enjoying the model, more books are in the hands of readers.
Regularly going to the Provincial Library to read books, Le Ngoc Kim Anh - a student of class 10A3, Ngo Si Lien High School expressed her excitement when seeing the artistic book stacking model in the library lobby. "The models displayed in the Provincial Library lobby are unique and impressive. Every time I go to the library, I go to see them, it inspires more interest in reading books."
Director of the Provincial Library Nguyen Thi Thuy Trang said: “In recent years, artistic book stacking has become one of the close forms of propaganda, creating opportunities for the public and readers to access reading culture, bringing books closer to readers at events, holidays, New Year, Book and Reading Culture Day... This is also a form of decoration, making library activities more lively and attractive, attracting the attention of readers, making a strong visual impression, stimulating interest in reading. Through the artistic book stacking model, the Provincial Library wants to send a message about the importance of books and reading, helping to improve the effectiveness of propaganda about reading culture for the public and readers"...
