According to the Ho Chi Minh City Dermatology Hospital, the hospital has recently received many cases of complications related to beauty treatments at illegal, unlicensed cosmetic facilities. In particular, patient NT (60 years old, Bao Loc city, Lam Dong province) went to a spa facility in Da Lat city to get fat injections in the chin area. Two weeks after the injection, the injection site began to swell and hurt, so the patient took medication but there was no improvement. After that, the patient visited the Ho Chi Minh City Dermatology Hospital and was diagnosed with subcutaneous fat cellulitis after fat injections in the chin area.
The second patient, HTK (34 years old, Dong Nai province), wanted to treat her double chin by injecting fat to dissolve fat, so she went to a spa in Dong Nai to get fat-dissolving injections. The patient also did not know what kind of substance was injected into the chin area. Two days after the injection, the patient felt swelling, pain, and burning in the injection area, so she went to the hospital for examination. After an ultrasound, the doctors discovered that the patient's previously injected chin had accumulated fluid pockets and the doctor diagnosed her with abscess after injecting fat to treat her double chin.
According to Dr. Lu Huynh Thanh Thao - Ho Chi Minh City Dermatology Hospital, this is just one of many cases that Ho Chi Minh City Dermatology Hospital has received. The common point of these patients is that they all performed invasive cosmetic services but at unlicensed facilities, operating illegally because the injector was not a professionally trained doctor, the injection technique was incorrect; injected into dangerous areas or did not ensure sterile rules during treatment.
According to statistics, men and women with double chins are often less attractive, 78% of people think that having a double chin is less cute and a survey by the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery in 2017 also showed that 73% of respondents felt uncomfortable because of a double chin.
According to Dr. Thanh Thao, for aesthetic reasons, most men and women with double chins need treatment to reduce or eliminate this excess area, making the face look younger and slimmer.
Current treatments such as fat dissolving injections, surgery, and the use of energy-generating devices to reduce fat and firm the skin, however, take a long time and are only effective after multiple treatments, requiring a recovery period.
Meanwhile, the technique of injecting fillers is known as a method to restore the volume of deficient tissue or to help create contours and support facial rejuvenation and can be used to treat double chins. In particular, in patients with short chins, this method gives quick results immediately after treatment, with almost no recovery time, meeting immediate aesthetic needs that other methods cannot do.
