On March 30, Hoi An city leaders said that after receiving information from the people, Hoi An city requested the Hoi An Urban Management Department and the environmental treatment unit to urgently fix the wastewater overflow point in the night market area on the south bank of the Hoai River.
At the intersection of Nguyen Hoang - Nguyen Phuc Chu, for many weeks there has been a section about 20m long and 2m wide where wastewater has overflowed onto the road surface.
Residents of this stretch of road said that during high tide, the water gushes out of the manhole covers with greater force. The black water has a foul smell that makes pedestrians have to cover their noses.
The area where the sewage overflowed onto the street is located right next to the walking street, the night market and surrounded by many restaurants that cater to Western customers. Although the people reported it and the authorities sent people to handle it, the matter has not been thoroughly resolved yet.

"This situation has been going on for a month. Everyone is complaining, and every time tourists pass through this section, they have to avoid it and cover their noses because it smells so bad.
To let customers in to shop, each business has to take a plank from the sidewalk to a clean place to make a "bridge" for customers to cross" - a resident on Nguyen Hoang street, said.
According to the leader of Minh An Ward People's Committee, the wastewater overflow area is a bottleneck of the underground sewer system that brings domestic wastewater to the treatment plant.
Recently, due to the increase in tourists, many restaurants and hotels have increased their waste discharge. Many businesses and restaurants let trash and plastic bags flow down the drain, causing clogged drains.
The environmental treatment unit came to dredge, but after a few days the same scene happened again.
Chairman of Hoi An City People's Committee - Mr. Nguyen Van Son said he will ask departments to quickly handle the situation to ensure a safe tourism environment for visitors.
