On October 7th, the People's Committee of Dong Gia Nghia ward, Lam Dong province, held a groundbreaking ceremony for the National Historical Monument project marking the point of contact and opening of the Ho Chi Minh Trail (the section from the Central Highlands to the Southeast region).
This is the location where, 65 years ago (October 30, 1960), revolutionary cadres and soldiers established contact and opened the Ho Chi Minh Trail, the section from Southern Central Highlands to Southeastern Vietnam.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Ho Van Muoi, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Committee of Lam Dong province, affirmed that this is a special national historical site that has been classified and is associated with the legendary Ho Chi Minh Trail.
The fact that revolutionary fighters established contact and opened up the route on October 30, 1960, was of immense importance in transporting weapons from the Central Highlands to the battlefields of the Southeast and southern provinces.
The project to establish a national historical site marking the point of contact and the opening of the Ho Chi Minh Trail in Bon Cay Xoai, Dong Gia Nghia ward, Lam Dong province, will be a significant location for educating the younger generation about revolutionary traditions and national pride.
The Chairman of the People's Committee of Dak Nong province also requested that the investor, construction contractor, and related units focus their human and material resources on implementing the project, ensuring its completion according to the planned schedule.
Mr. Le Truc Phuong, a veteran and former Secretary of the Dak Nong (old) District Party Committee, representing the veterans, affirmed that the opening of the communication link between the Southern Central Highlands and the Southeastern region at Bon Cay Xoai was a milestone in the resistance war against the American imperialists.
The North-South strategic corridor section passing through Dak Nong is a legendary road that has gone down in history, and the preservation and commemoration of the fallen heroes and martyrs is the responsibility of the entire political system and present generations.
According to some veterans, the location where contact was established and the Ho Chi Minh Trail was opened at Bon Cay Xoai was previously a dense, old-growth forest. In the middle of this area were many large mango trees that were easily visible and identifiable from a great distance. Therefore, revolutionary cadres and soldiers (B90 section) chose the largest mango cluster in this area as the contact point.
Later, the place name Bon Cay Xoai was established and gradually became a site for educating the younger generation about revolutionary traditions.
According to the People's Committee of Dong Gia Nghia ward, the project has a total investment of 62 billion VND. The construction unit is a joint venture between Trung Hoa Construction One-Member Limited Liability Company and Nam Viet Dak Nong Limited Liability Company; it is expected to be completed in mid-2027.
