However, this is still considered an unsuccessful tournament for coach Troussier and his team when they failed in their mission to defend the gold medal.
However, when asked about the strength of U22 Vietnam compared to other teams in the region, the French coach still made a very strong statement.
“We have faced the strongest teams in Southeast Asia such as Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia.
In terms of organization, tactics, and playing style, I see no team superior to U22 Vietnam.
All the players are of equal skill level, the only difference is their experience. The players of the three teams above have played a lot, even abroad.
As for U22 Vietnam, in today's match, there are 6 players from the U20 team. Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia have U22 as their core force.
This is a generation of potential players from Vietnam and these factors will help Vietnamese football develop in the future," said coach Troussier.
Commenting on the performance of U22 Vietnam against U22 Myanmar in the bronze medal match, the French coach said: "We entered the match with the highest determination.
Before the match, I told the players that this was not only about competing for medals but also the beginning of a new journey.
Today all the players played well. Ho Van Cuong, although only a defender, still scored 2 goals.
Our goals came from well-rehearsed combinations. I'm happy with the players.
The bronze medal did not meet the expectations of Vietnamese fans, but when looking at the team through expertise, we are in the process of building.
I want the players to play well, not only to compete in Southeast Asia but also in Asia," Coach Troussier concluded.
