In Cam Due commune, Cam Xuyen district ( Ha Tinh ), hundreds of households did not have time to collect their belongings, and the rice they had just harvested was swept away and submerged by the floodwaters.
Mr. Nguyen Huy Cuong, resident of Tan My village, Cam Due commune, said: “At 1:30 am today (May 25), I got up to go to the toilet and saw heavy rain, flood water pouring in, inundating my house and property. My motorbike, electrical appliances, rice and all the property in my house were submerged in water.”

Mr. Cuong added: “I was worried and called my parents who lived not far from my house but could not reach them. Fearing that my parents would be swept away by the flood, my brother and I quickly used a boat to get home. When we arrived, my parents' house was more than 2 meters deep in water, and all their belongings were submerged in water. My mother climbed up onto the livestock farm to avoid the flood.”

Mr. Nguyen Huu Linh in Thuong Long village, Cam Quan commune, Cam Xuyen district, was heartbroken when his family's 900 kg of rice that had just been harvested was submerged in water.

Local people said that when it rained, they thought it was just a normal thunderstorm because flooding had never happened in the fourth lunar month, so they did not take precautions.
The leader of Cam Due Commune People's Committee also informed that this was the first historic flood to occur in April in the area, so people did not have time to store their belongings, leading to heavy damage.

According to an officer of the Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control of Ha Tinh province, the complicated rain and floods from the afternoon of May 24 to the morning of May 25 caused great damage to many localities such as Thach Ha district, Ha Tinh city, Ky Anh district and Ky Anh town, of which Cam Xuyen district suffered the most damage.

Rainfall at automatic rain gauge stations from 1pm on May 24 to 12pm on May 25 ranged from 333 - 420mm, especially at Ke Go lake station it was 525mm, and at Thuong Song Tri lake station it was up to 601.8mm.

This leader added that every year, in the 4th and 5th lunar months, Ha Tinh often has heavy rains of the Tieu Man season, but the rainfall is small and occurs quickly. There has never been a year when the area has had heavy rain lasting for many hours and extreme flooding like this year.
