Memorial site of the Head of the National Assembly Standing Committee Bui Bang Doan: Address for traditional education, cultural tourism destination

Located in Bat Chua village, Ung Thien commune, Hanoi city, the recently inaugurated memorial site of the Head of the National Assembly Standing Committee Bui Bang Doan is a project bearing a strong historical and cultural mark. Director of the Center for Culture, Information and Sports of Ung Thien commune TRUONG THE HUU shared the plan to turn this place into a "red address" in the work of traditional education, a local tourist destination.

A place to return to the roots, local history education

- Could you please share the local plan to effectively promote the value of the Memorial Site of the Head of the National Assembly Standing Committee Bui Bang Doan?

- The construction and inauguration of the memorial site of the Head of the National Assembly Standing Committee Bui Bang Doan is a great honor for the cadres and people of Ung Thien commune. This project is a tribute and deep concern of the National Assembly, the National Assembly Office and Hanoi city for the life, career and contributions of Mr. Bui Bang Doan.

We determined that this will be a place to educate the tradition of patriotism for the young generation of Ung Thien commune and all cadres and people in the area. Everyone will follow the example of Mr. Bui to study, promote the spirit of examinations and patriotism, thereby contributing to building the homeland of Ung Thien to become more and more prosperous, civilized and sustainably developed.

We have reported to the Party Committee and the People's Committee of the commune and are recommending and proposing that all levels promptly hand over the Memorial Site to the commune. After receiving the handover, the People's Committee of the commune will direct departments, offices, functional agencies and Bat Chua village to step up propaganda, introduction and promotion of the value of the Memorial Site.

- Specifically, how to turn the Memorial Area into a "red address" for traditional education as you just said?

- We will develop a plan to bring students from schools in Ung Thien commune as well as neighboring communes to visit and study here. The memorial site will be a place for students and young people to return to during extracurricular hours on local history or before the school year begins. This is the most direct and effective way to spread the example of patriotism and wholehearted devotion to the revolution and the people of Mr. Bui Bang Doan.

To spread the historical value of the Memorial Site to the community, the commune has proactively organized bonding activities. Typically, on October 19, 2025, the Party Committee and the People's Committee of the commune directed the Organizing Committee of the first Sports Congress of Ung Thien commune to perform the traditional fire-taking ritual at the Memorial Site to light the fire tower. This fire burned throughout the Congress, not only demonstrating the spirit of continuing tradition but also spreading information and promoting the image of the Memorial Site to a wide range of cadres and people.

Connect and build diverse tourist routes

- Besides the traditional educational role, could you tell us about the plan to connect the Memorial Area with local tourism development?

- The memorial site of the Head of the National Assembly Standing Committee Bui Bang Doan is located in a convenient location for organizing tourist routes. We have planned to build diverse tourist routes, including a tourist route connecting points in Ung Thien commune to serve tourists from Hanoi city center.

Specifically, in one day, visitors can visit the Bui Memorial Site, then go to nearby places such as the Tran Dang Ninh Memorial House (the first Head of the Party's Central Inspection Committee) about 3km away, visit the Quang Phu Cau incense stick craft village - a craft village tourist destination loved by many foreign tourists. Visitors can take photos, check-in, enjoy safe and clean cuisine in Ung Thien commune; in the evening, they can listen to Cheo and Chau Van singing before returning to Hanoi's inner city.

In the long term, we are aiming to build the Memorial Site of the Head of the National Assembly Standing Committee Bui Bang Doan as an important stop on the "South Thang Long - Hanoi Heritage Road" (connecting the three old districts of Thanh Oai, Ung Hoa, and My Duc). Tourists from Hanoi city center can also visit the Memorial Site, then continue their spiritual journey to famous places such as Huong Pagoda (Hanoi); Bai Dinh, Ba Sao (Ninh Binh)...

- In order for the Memorial Site of the Head of the National Assembly Standing Committee Bui Bang Doan to best serve the work of traditional education and tourism development, there must be careful preparation of the exhibition content. Can you share more about this work?

- Collecting and preserving artifacts and documents of the Memorial Site is a top priority. The functional departments of the commune are actively coordinating with the National Assembly Office, the State Records and Archives Department, and especially the Bui family to collect and duplicate valuable artifacts.

Fortunately, the Bui family and clan have donated many priceless artifacts to the Memorial House, such as the hat that President Ho Chi Minh gave to Mr. Bui Bang Doan during the Northwest campaign, or the seal when he was Minister of Justice. Many other valuable documents are also on display, such as documents about the period when he was an advisor to Uncle Ho, Head of the Government's Special Inspectorate and Head of the National Assembly Standing Committee.

Therefore, we hope that the National Assembly, the National Assembly Office and Hanoi City will soon hand over and support annual operating costs so that the Memorial Site can be managed and operated effectively, promoting its best value, worthy of being a project to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the first General Election to elect the Vietnamese National Assembly (January 6, 2026).
