The French army established a barbed wire fence system, and reinforced the barrier with solid fortifications.
On the top of A1 hill, visitors can visit the bunker, which was once a wine cellar in the French mansion. The bunker is divided into two compartments, one of which is used as a working area for the information department. Today, traces of the war are still preserved, especially the crater created by 960kg of explosives - an impressive historical evidence.
3.3. De Castries Tunnel

De Castries Bunker, known as “the most fortified bunker in Indochina”, was the headquarters of General De Castries during the Dien Bien Phu campaign. This structure was built by the French colonialists with a strict defense system, surrounded by dense barbed wire fences and four tanks on guard duty. Up to now, the architecture and layout inside the bunker have been preserved intact, becoming one of the must-see stops when traveling to Dien Bien.

The project was put into operation in mid-2014, with a characteristic architecture with a truncated cone shape and diamond-shaped motifs, reminiscent of the camouflage net on soldiers' helmets. The museum consists of two main areas: the basement is an exhibition space combining historical education and entertainment, while the upper floor is dedicated to topics about the Dien Bien Phu campaign.
3.5. Dien Bien Phu Campaign Headquarters Relic

Located at an altitude of more than 1,000m above sea level, the Dien Bien Phu Campaign Headquarters Relic is located at the foot of Pu Don Mountain, amidst a dense primeval forest. This was once the nerve center of the historic campaign, where General Vo Nguyen Giap and other senior generals directly commanded the decisive battle.
The relic site was designed in a continuous model with a system of barracks and solid command bunkers, ensuring safety and secrecy during the war. Currently, many items are still preserved intact, including the working barracks of General Vo Nguyen Giap, Deputy Chief of the General Staff Hoang Van Thai and Head of the Information and Communications Department Hoang Dao Thuy.
