Leverage for green economic development
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Forum, comrade Tran Tri Quang - Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Dong Thap province, said that the Forum aims to promote the spirit and actions of both the public and private sectors, especially the business and start-up forces with innovative elements to concretize the policy of Resolution No. 13-NQ/TW of the 13th Politburo on the direction of socio-economic development, ensuring national defense and security in the Mekong Delta region to 2030, with a vision to 2045; The Prime Minister's master plan for the Mekong Delta region for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050, and creating a movement to implement the Project "Sustainable development of 1 million hectares of high-quality and low-emission rice cultivation associated with green growth in the Mekong Delta region by 2030", focusing on the goal of establishing Dong Thap as the "Center for green transformation solutions in the Mekong Delta region" in the new situation. Dong Thap believes and expects that through this Forum, it will create an important turning point, marking a transformation for Dong Thap and other provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta region to have close links, together building a foundation for effective cooperation and public-private dialogue associated with innovation, inter-regional development, exploiting the potential and strengths of the region, mobilizing the highest internal and external resources to soon bring about practical results in sustainable socio-economic development. Thereby contributing to supporting and developing businesses and promoting the green economic orientation of the Mekong Delta region.
Finding a direction for the green economy in the Mekong Delta region, the Forum also has a Discussion with the theme "Connecting - Reaching Out" including 3 sessions. The discussions attracted the participation and intellectual contributions of many scientists , management agencies, businesses, and startups in the Mekong Delta provinces for the common goal of bringing the Mekong Delta to reach out.
At the seminar “Agricultural models and agro-fishery processing production towards green economy in the Mekong Delta”; Mr. Guenther Reinhard Meyer - Project Manager VN-ADAPT, SNV Vietnam pointed out the limitations in agricultural production in the Mekong Delta such as: small scale, low productivity, weak linkage. Accordingly, this organization recommends that provinces need to switch to sustainable agriculture, adapt to climate change, and emphasize the importance of value chain transformation and green investment.
Dr. Nguyen Thanh My - Chairman of the Board of Directors of Rynan Technology Company introduced some green agricultural models and suggested the Mekong Delta region to implement "dual transformation" in agriculture. This is the process of integrating digital technology into the entire agricultural value chain with the goal of increasing economic efficiency, adapting to climate change and moving towards sustainable development.
In the seminar “Youth startups, innovation and digital transformation in the 4.0 era”, the speakers affirmed the great potential of agricultural production in the Mekong Delta region for startups. To start a successful and sustainable business, startups need to have a clear strategy, define specific goals, build an effective business model, apply modern technology and ensure sustainability. In addition, building a strong brand is also an important factor to build reputation and compete in the market.
With the theme of the seminar being “Mekong Green Tourism Initiative”, experts and startups spent a lot of time discussing how provinces can make the most of natural and cultural factors, thereby building a unique tourism image, protecting the environment and promoting indigenous cultural values.
Notably, the Forum also featured the 2024 Mekong Innovation Competition, attracting the participation of 136 projects from localities across the country. The participating projects brought urgent solutions and initiatives on digital transformation, green transformation, application of science and technology, processing of indigenous resources, and minimizing environmental impacts. Meeting the competition criteria and the actual situation, the project "Circular value chain to reduce emissions in the Alpha Amin seafood industry" by author Nguyen Trung Tinh (Dong Thap province) won the first prize of the competition.
Comrade Pham Thien Nghia - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of Dong Thap Provincial People's Committee announced the message of the Forum.
Focusing resources on building a green economy
The highlight of the Forum is the plenary session with the theme “Green Economy - New Driving Force for Development”. Here, delegates focused their intelligence on exchanging and discussing mechanisms, policies, and methods to activate innovation capacity and effectively combine resources to develop the green economy of the Mekong Delta.
According to Mr. Tran Thanh Nam - Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, reviewing the goals and achievements of the first Mekong Startup Forum in 2022 brings many practical benefits to rural people and promotes the regional economy. However, the Mekong Delta is still facing many challenges due to climate change and changes in consumption trends and agricultural product quality standards. Therefore, green transformation and digital transformation are objective requirements and are the top priority strategies for the region to develop sustainably.
To effectively implement the "green economy", at the Forum, experts exchanged and discussed mechanisms, policies, and methods to activate innovation capacity and effectively combine resources to develop the green economy of the Mekong Delta.
Speaking at the plenary session, Comrade Huynh Thanh Dat - Member of the Party Central Committee, Minister of Science and Technology highly appreciated the spirit of "Pioneering - Creativity - Dare to think - Dare to do" of the Mekong Delta provinces when creating green economic-oriented start-up models to build the homeland, making good use of local resources. In order for the initiatives, solutions and recommendations of this year's Forum to have the opportunity to materialize and continue to promote more valuable and practical models, the Minister of Science and Technology suggested that the localities in the Mekong Delta region actively research, boldly advise and propose to competent authorities to apply specific mechanisms for pilot and experimental models. At the same time, focus on identifying and removing difficulties and obstacles, creating all favorable conditions for people and businesses in start-up activities; continue to promote the development of the start-up and innovation ecosystem in the region; Strengthen regional connectivity, invest in improving the scientific and technological potential of the province and the region.

Specifically, the Forum has truly become a "red address" to call, gather, promote the spirit and actions of both the public and private sectors, especially the force of start-up businesses with innovative elements; the Forum with the resonance of the initiative to form the Mekong Green Transformation Network will be maintained and developed to become a platform for cooperation and public-private dialogue; through the activities of the Forum and the Mekong Green Transformation Network, activities to connect resources and markets will be promoted, especially typical individuals, groups and units in start-up and innovation activities associated with the green economy will be honored.

Through the Forum, the region's innovative startup ecosystem has been developed to a new level, oriented towards sustainability on the basis of promoting the application of science and technology and digital transformation combined with green transformation; activities within the framework of the Forum ensure practicality, efficiency, attracting diverse domestic and foreign resources...
Within the framework of the event, the Forum also launched the Mekong Green Transformation Network. This is an initiative of cooperation between the public and private sectors to promote sustainable solutions, environmental protection and economic development in the Mekong Delta region. These groups include: Green Agriculture - developing sustainable agricultural initiatives and digitalizing agriculture; Green Tourism - promoting sustainable and responsible tourism models; Green Mekong Youth - aiming to raise awareness and entrepreneurship capacity of young people in the environmental field... |
