As young people, regardless of their field of work, they leverage their technological acumen to proactively and pioneer research and application of digital transformation, helping to improve the efficiency and productivity of their professional work. In doing so, they help spread and promote digital thinking and digital action among young people in particular and Vietnamese people in general.
Breakthroughs in improving work efficiency.
Mr. Nguyen Han Dung, a member of the Executive Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Youth Union, Deputy Chief of Office, and Secretary of the Youth Union of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Industry and Trade, does not come from a technology background. However, he has a great passion for research and exploration, and above all, he clearly understands that digital transformation is not just a technical tool, but a strategic direction that needs to start with concrete, practical actions that directly serve the work and the interests of the community. Therefore, he always proactively researches and proposes innovative solutions based on technology.
During his work, Mr. Dung and his colleagues implemented many digital transformation initiatives that yielded practical results. These included initiatives applying information technology to internal management and operations; developing GIS mapping tools to identify potential distribution network development points; developing an "Online Market" model to support agricultural product consumption and connect small traders during the pandemic; and organizing the "Connecting Young City Officials" forum with the theme "Starting a Business on E-commerce Platforms," creating a space for exchange among union members, young people, experts, and organizations supporting entrepreneurship…
"Most of the solutions stem from practical needs and a desire to contribute a small part to building the image of young civil servants, union members, and youth who are courageous, responsible, and pioneering in the digital age. In reality, the implemented digital transformation solutions have yielded practical results, helping to shorten processing time, reduce manual work, and increase transparency and efficiency in state management," Mr. Dung shared.
Mr. Dung also affirmed: "The initiatives that I and my colleagues proposed and implemented, although only small steps, have brought about a clear change in the way we work in both professional tasks and Youth Union activities. These initial results are proof that digital transformation can begin from very practical situations and, more importantly, contribute to promoting digital thinking and spreading the spirit of innovation among young cadres."
Dung's greatest motivation stems from his sense of responsibility towards his assigned work and his leadership role within the Youth Union. "I always ask myself, if young people don't start changing themselves, who will? That question drives me to constantly explore, experiment, and persevere with every solution, no matter how small. For me, digital transformation isn't just a slogan, but a way for young civil servants to demonstrate their capabilities, dare to innovate for the collective good, and contribute to the sustainable development of the sector and the agency," Dung said.
Since he's not a tech expert, whenever he encounters a problem, Dung chooses to learn more, ask questions, and try things out. He believes that starting point doesn't determine ability; it's the spirit of self-improvement, proactiveness, and a willingness to change that makes the difference.
"For me, digital transformation is a journey of learning by doing, experimenting and correcting. Thanks to that approach, my colleagues and I have developed practical, easy-to-apply solutions that bring long-term effectiveness to our work and Youth Union activities," Dung shared.
As the Youth Union Secretary, Nguyen Han Dung clearly understands that digital transformation is not just a tool, but a way to innovate collective thinking. Therefore, in recent times, he and the Executive Committee of the Youth Union of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Industry and Trade have organized many training sessions and applied AI.
"As young people, we are not just the enforcers, but the pioneers. Digital transformation cannot wait until it's perfect before starting; it requires people who dare to lead the way, accept the trial-and-error process, and constantly learn, research, and improve. I always strive to bring that spirit into even the smallest tasks because I believe that the digital era doesn't begin with technology, but with a mindset that dares to change, and that is the responsibility of young people today," Dung expressed.
From young people to the next generation, everyone is a pioneer.
The story of Nguyen Dinh Nguyen, Director of DOCCEN Technology JSC, from a medical student to a technology entrepreneur, is also a vivid testament to the pioneering spirit and ability of young people to grasp the trends of the times.
According to Dinh Nguyen, from his early days interning in healthcare environments such as hospitals, clinics, and even in the lecture halls, he noticed that the healthcare industry in general and healthcare professionals in particular are closely linked to technology. From biomedical technology such as high-tech devices that help diagnose and treat diseases effectively to tools that support training and teaching students; from appointment scheduling applications to electronic medical record management software… all are developing and changing rapidly. All these technologies have been and are helping the healthcare industry develop more strongly, allowing people to access high-quality healthcare, saving time and costs.
"From then on, with my existing passion for science and technology, my colleagues and I nurtured the idea of how to apply technology to healthcare fields in Vietnam. With the support and guidance of professors at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy, as well as senior colleagues, our startup company has achieved considerable success in bringing new technologies, especially artificial intelligence (AI), from international technology corporations such as Google, AWS, Adobe… to be applied in Vietnam," Nguyen shared.
In this new era of rapid technological change, Nguyen always keeps in mind: "Young people need to clearly recognize their advantages in having more time, more energy, and a better technological knowledge base compared to previous generations. Therefore, I believe that young people should play the role of both a bridge and a source of creativity in this new era. Once they understand the challenges existing in their chosen field, young people need to leverage their creativity and existing knowledge base to truly generate ideas, test solutions, assess feasibility, and create and develop innovative projects aimed at solving those problems."
A particularly interesting example of a pioneer in digital transformation is Cap Hoang Dung. Despite his young age, Hoang Dung, a 6th-grade student at Saigon Practical High School, has created several software programs to help make learning more effective.
During his time at school, Dung constantly sought opportunities to learn and challenge himself in various fields, from mathematics and programming to scientific innovation. Through this, he developed several projects that have been applied in practice in class, such as the math software "Mental Calculation Practice" and the history software "Cultural Heritage Journey of Ho Chi Minh City". These two software programs won first and third prizes in the Ho Chi Minh City Youth and Children's Innovation Competition in 2022 and 2023, respectively.
In particular, during the school years affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, seeing how hard teachers struggled with daily attendance checks, Dung created the software "Smart Attendance and Student Emotion Assessment". The software uses the open-source Pictoblox language combined with AI and is installed on the homeroom teacher's computer to automatically take attendance via the computer's camera and can recognize six student expressions. This software won the gold medal at the Ho Chi Minh City Application Design and Development Award in 2023.
Currently, Hoang Dung has developed the Happy School Chatbot project to provide psychological counseling for students. This is the project Dung is most passionate about. He said that through the activities of the Youth Council and the city's youth delegate meetings, he realized that students do not have an application to befriend, listen to, and help resolve their adolescent concerns. He hopes that after the Happy School Chatbot is completed, it will become a space for psychological and health counseling, accompanying students in their learning and growth process.
"Even at a young age, I can do small things according to my abilities. With a passion for technology since the second grade, I hope to create more software and applications to help students learn more effectively. Beyond that, I want to contribute to the community and the country. In today's era, mastering technology not only benefits oneself but also supports the community," shared the student who began tinkering with his first lines of code in the second grade.
