(CPV) – Currently, Kon Tum province has 242 valid OCOP products with 3 to 5 stars. The province's OCOP products are diverse in types and most of them are key products, typical of the localities.

Localities with a large number of OCOP products recognized as meeting standards are Kon Tum city with 71 products, Kon Plong district with 64 products, Tu Mo Rong district with 40 products, and Dak Ha district with 34 products.
In recent years, OCOP has become one of the key programs for economic development in rural areas towards promoting internal resources and increasing the value of typical agricultural products of localities.
Since the beginning of the OCOP program, Kon Tum province has identified this as an important solution to serve the restructuring of the agricultural sector, promote the rural economy, and contribute to the construction of new rural areas. Therefore, all levels and sectors have actively supported, advised, and guided localities and entities in selecting typical products, implementing production according to standards, and registering to participate in the OCOP program. At the same time, creating conditions to bring OCOP and typical products into the modern distribution channel system, retail systems and distribution points, trade promotion, product consumption connection, etc. From there, attracting many enterprises, cooperatives and production and business households to participate, bringing positive results.
The implementation of the OCOP program has had positive and significant impacts on rural economic development. Through the program, it has contributed to awakening the potential of land, products, comparative advantages, especially cultural values to build and form OCOP products that integrate "multi-values", linking agricultural development with services and tourism. Creating motivation, helping individuals, production households, and cooperatives promote creativity in the production process, creating a foundation for products to reach beyond the traditional market. When participating in the program, all products must be produced according to strict technical standards and processes, thereby producing products with good quality, beautiful designs, and food safety to meet the consumer market.
The production of OCOP products also changes the thinking in production of people and cooperatives, gradually shifting from small-scale, spontaneous production to large-scale, commodity-oriented, planned production, building a closed value chain to create a stable, quality raw material area, producing according to market requirements. In fact, many chains from production to processing and consumption of products have been formed, such as the coffee production chain according to UTZ and 4C standards; the clean tea production chain in the Eastern Truong Son region, and the medicinal herbs production chain. Thereby, contributing to improving production efficiency, increasing people's income, creating momentum for agricultural and rural economic development, contributing to sustainable poverty reduction.
In addition, each OCOP product also acts as an “ambassador” to convey the stories of each region and locality, such as wine products, Mang Den wild sim fruit juice bearing the flavor of Kon Plong mountains and forests, Dak Ha coffee products showing the characteristics and differences of this “capital” of coffee. Thereby, contributing to promoting the image of the localities, attracting people and tourists to learn and explore.
According to the assessment of the Office of the Coordination of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Program for New Rural Development in Kon Tum province, in addition to the outstanding results, the implementation of the OCOP program in recent times still has some limitations. That is, the number of OCOP products has increased over the years, but not really sustainable; many OCOP subjects still lack initiative when participating in the program; have not paid attention to standardizing the quality, design, packaging, stamps, labels, and product labels to raise the OCOP star, and the small production scale makes the products still lack competitiveness in the market. In addition, some localities have not really paid attention, considering this as one of the highlights in rural economic development; have not focused on reviewing potential products, strengths, propaganda, and guidance for people and establishments to participate in the OCOP program.
According to the implementation plan of the OCOP Program for the period 2021 - 2025, Kon Tum province strives to have at least 250 OCOP products achieving 3 stars or more by 2025, of which at least 30% of OCOP entities will build a closed value chain, linked to stable raw material areas.
Along with encouraging and supporting subjects to continue participating in the OCOP Program to have more new products, the key task set by functional sectors and localities is to develop OCOP products in depth to enhance the value and competitiveness of products. In particular, focusing on building areas of agricultural and medicinal materials in the direction of organic production, ecological agriculture, saving resources, conserving nature, biodiversity, ensuring food safety; strengthening sustainable links, traceability between OCOP product producers and raw material areas. Standardizing and developing OCOP products according to the value chain, in accordance with the advantages of production conditions and market requirements. Enhancing the community in participating in OCOP product development; digitizing products and building a traceability system according to the OCOP product value chain; promoting supply-demand connections, promoting e-commerce development for OCOP products to expand consumption.
Although there are still difficulties and limitations, it can be seen that the OCOP program implemented throughout the province has had a positive impact on rural economic development, contributing to the construction of new rural areas in each locality.
