The annual Cua Ong Temple Festival has been recognized as a national intangible cultural heritage, affirming the value and vitality of this heritage.
Previously, Cua Ong was known as a major coal processing and exporting center of the country. However, with the orientation of sustainable development and green economy of Quang Ninh , Cua Ong ward is promoting the economic restructuring from "brown" to "green". The plan to develop a public railway from Ha Long to Cua Ong and to Van Don also promises to open up new opportunities for development.

With the expanded development space, in the period of 2025 - 2030, Cua Ong ward determined that the East will develop industry, services, tourism, seaports associated with preserving and promoting the cultural values of the Cua Ong - Cap Tien National Special Relic Site connected to Van Don economic zone; the West will become a new modern urban area, associated with protecting natural landscapes, sustainable environment and exploiting tourism and services associated with Cam Pha ward; the South is the direction towards the sea, focusing on developing manufacturing industry, marine economy, taking seaports and logistics services as the driving force; the North will continue to develop traffic and urban infrastructure.
