Having lost both his parents and two younger siblings in a traffic accident when he was only 5 years old, engineer Nguyen Van Thuan - currently working at Dung Quat Oil Refinery - spent his childhood years in an orphanage. There, strangers became his spiritual support, sheltering, loving and nurturing him. Despite the absence of a family, it was this adversity that instilled in him a strong will to overcome his fate, constantly strive and grow steadily in life.
Having worked at Dung Quat Oil Refinery for nearly 20 years, Nguyen Van Thuan is not only a dedicated and responsible engineer, but also an exemplary husband and father in his small family. He always cherishes every moment with his wife and children, because as he confided: “I used to live without a family, so I understand the value of a home even more. It is a place to return to, a source of motivation for me to live well and work well every day.”
Take loss as motivation to rise up
Mr. Nguyen Van Thuan is currently the Head of the General Planning Team, Production Operation Department, Binh Son Refining and Petrochemical Joint Stock Company ( BSR ). He always exudes calmness, sincerity and a positive energy that spreads - a person that anyone who talks to will receive a warm, friendly smile. Remembering the incident in his family, Mr. Thuan is no longer as sad as before, but those memories have never faded, but only softened over time. "In the early years, I was often haunted by the images and voices of my parents and siblings. Tears just flowed out without me knowing," he recalled. But instead of being immersed in the past, he learned to heal and found joy in group activities, or in helping new children coming to the center. "When I give care, I also receive healing in return," he confided.
In the years after the loss of his family, Mr. Thuan always tried his best to study to overcome his circumstances. He passed the entrance exam to the Organic Petrochemical Engineering program (Quy Nhon University in association with Hanoi University of Science and Technology) and graduated with honors in 2007. A year later, he officially became an operations engineer at Dung Quat Oil Refinery - where he began his journey of nearly two decades of dedication at BSR.
A difficult starting point could not stop Mr. Thuan from rising up with his efforts and progressive spirit. From a young engineer just entering the profession, he has continuously learned, accumulated experience and affirmed his own capacity. Currently, he is the Head of the General Planning Team - a position that requires sharp systematic thinking, the ability to coordinate smoothly and absolute precision. In the eyes of his colleagues, Mr. Thuan is a calm, responsible and emotional person. Besides his professional work, he also actively participates in Party, Trade Union and many other mass activities at the unit.
With a sense of responsibility, dedication to work and active contributions to union activities, Mr. Nguyen Van Thuan has been repeatedly recognized and rewarded by the collective and all levels, with titles such as: "Outstanding BSR Employee"; Certificate of Merit from the General Director of BSR; Party member who has completed his tasks excellently; Certificate of Merit from the Vietnam National Energy Industry Group; "For the Young Generation" Medal awarded by the Central Executive Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union...
This is not only a worthy recognition for an individual who is always devoted to the collective, but also a motivation for him to continue spreading positive spirit, living responsibly and inspiring in the BSR family.
Not only is he dedicated to his work, he is also an exemplary husband and father. His small family consists of his wife and two children. For him, after stressful working hours, coming home, having a warm meal and chatting with his wife and children is a precious moment that gives him the strength to improve himself.
Family - precious spiritual support
“I used to live without a family, so I cherish my current home even more. I try to give my children all the love I lacked during my childhood,” Thuan confided. For him, family is not only a place to return to, but also a solid rear, a valuable spiritual support that helps him stand firm under work pressure. Especially in a special environment like Dung Quat Refinery, where each employee is shouldering heavy responsibilities.
“I myself feel very clearly the connection between two homes, that is my own home and the BSR family. It is the understanding and sharing of my family and the BSR workforce that has helped me overcome many difficult times,” he shared.
After getting married and having his own family, Mr. Thuan brought the portraits of his parents and two siblings to worship in his own house. This was not only an act of filial piety, but also a way for him to feel that his parents and two siblings were always by his side, watching over and protecting his growing family every day.
In his journey of striving, Mr. Thuan always turned to the orphanage - the place that gave him support during the most difficult years of his life. In his efforts, there was also the warmth and affection of his uncle's family who helped him during his university years. "Without those years, there would be no me today," Mr. Thuan emotionally shared.
The story of Nguyen Van Thuan is not only a testament to the will to overcome fate, but also a profound reminder of the value of family love and happiness, which seems obvious to many people, but it is a big "gap" in his life. From a difficult childhood, he has quietly built a loving home, where every meal and every warm moment is a deep compensation for the losses of the past.
At BSR - where Mr. Thuan is attached and devoted, he is a devoted Team Leader, always devoted to his work. And at home, he is a loving father and husband. The two roles - one person - are connected by the same invisible thread of love and responsibility.
Nguyen Van Thuan's journey is not only a living testament to the will to rise above adversity, but also a gentle yet profound reminder: "Family - the seemingly obvious thing is actually the most precious thing." Only when experiencing loss can one truly appreciate the meaning of familiar things.
