Lai Chau builds digital healthcare for community health

Lai Chau is a mountainous border province with complex terrain and scattered population. The application of technology in healthcare not only helps save time but also brings clear efficiency in management, medical examination and treatment and health care for people. In fact, when we were present at the Examination Department (Provincial General Hospital) in early October, we noticed that there were many people coming for medical examination and treatment. People came from many localities such as Tan Phong ward, Doan Ket ward, and even distant communes such as Dao San, Si Lo Lau, Nam Cuoi, Ta Tong, Pa U... It is worth mentioning that when digital healthcare platforms were put into application, especially electronic health books and electronic health records, they helped doctors and patients look up information quickly and accurately.

As one of the patients who came to the clinic and enjoyed the benefits of digital transformation applications in healthcare, Ms. Ca Thi Quy from Nam Cuoi commune was very satisfied. She used her personal phone to look up all her medical examination and treatment information; even if she needed to see more clearly, she could use the automatic number taking kiosk located in the lobby of the hospital's examination room to look up information with the enthusiastic support of medical staff .

We learned that the electronic health book is an application deployed by the Ministry of Health. This is a digital platform that helps each person manage all personal health information such as: medical history, test results, vaccination history, prescriptions, treatment instructions... all stored in a synchronous, scientific and easy-to-search manner. With the electronic health book, people no longer have to worry about losing their paper medical records or forgetting old treatment information. Instead, all data is updated and stored securely, effectively serving the long-term health monitoring and care process.

Along with the Electronic Health Book, the VssID application developed by the Vietnam Social Security (VSS) is also considered an "electronic insurance book" that helps people look up information related to social insurance, health insurance, and unemployment insurance quickly, transparently, and conveniently. Through VssID, people can easily check information about their insurance participation process, benefits, and medical examination and treatment history. At the same time, they can use the image of the health insurance card on the application instead of a paper card when going to see a doctor or get medical treatment. Especially from July 1, 2025, according to the provisions of the Health Insurance Law 2024, when going to see a doctor or get medical treatment, health insurance participants will not use a paper health insurance card as before, but will use VssID or a citizen identification card integrated with health insurance, bringing more convenience to people, especially people in remote and border areas.

Currently, the whole province has a large number of people successfully installing and using electronic health books and VssID. Medical examination and treatment facilities in the area have also implemented data integration and used electronic information in receiving and treating patients. The use of these two applications not only helps increase transparency, reduce paperwork and administrative procedures, but also helps authorities closely monitor the public health situation, thereby making appropriate policies.

Digital healthcare is not only a trend but also an inevitable step to improve the effectiveness of people's healthcare. The people's proactive use of electronic health books and VssID is an important premise to build a modern, friendly, patient-centered healthcare system. In the coming time, with the determination of the entire political system and the consensus of the people, Lai Chau province is confident that it will continue to expand and effectively spread these two applications, contributing to accelerating the national digital transformation process and building a fair, modern healthcare system that serves the people more effectively.
