On December 29, in Da Lat city, Lam Dong province, the Da Lat Flower Association coordinated with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of the province to organize a seminar on the sustainable development strategy of the flower industry of Lam Dong province for the period 2024-2030, with a vision to 2050.

Speaking at the seminar, Chairman of the Dalat Flower Association Phan Thanh Sang said that the flower growing industry in Dalat - Lam Dong has now developed on par with other countries in the region, thanks to the introduction of modern technologies, such as seeds, materials, modern equipment and the application of high and smart technology in production; along with climate, natural conditions and land suitable for cultivating a variety of flowers all year round.

Flower area and output increase annually from 5 to 7%. Up to now, the whole province has nearly 10,800 hectares of flowers, with an output of more than 4.4 billion branches and 400 varieties of flowers. Da Lat flower products and flower seedlings have been exported to dozens of countries. However, the export rate is only about 11% of flower output. Lam Dong flower industry is facing fierce competition with imported flower products and from large flower growing regions in the country.

At the seminar, many opinions said that it is necessary to have a sustainable and effective strategy for developing Da Lat - Lam Dong flowers, ensuring competition in the domestic market and promoting the export of flower products and flower seedlings with advantages produced in Lam Dong, helping Da Lat - Lam Dong flower growers integrate into the world in organizing flower production and trade.

Representatives of Lam Dong's agricultural sector presented an overview of the sustainable development strategy for the flower industry in Lam Dong province for the period 2024-2030, with a vision to 2050; with the goal of developing flowers into a high-value, sustainable commercial commodity production industry with regional and international value chains. Forming a leading flower production center in Southeast Asia to support and promote flower production and trading associated with the development of branded products "Da Lat - Miraculous crystallization from the good land".

Head of Lam Dong Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection Ha Ngoc Chien presented an overview of the sustainable development strategy for the flower industry in Lam Dong province.

The goal by 2030 is to expand the scale of flower production areas, improve land use efficiency so that the total flower output of the province reaches 5.4 billion branches and 0.5 billion flower pots of all kinds; the flower industry's production value reaches more than 15 trillion VND; the average harvest value reaches more than 3.7 billion VND/ha; flower export turnover reaches more than 217 million USD. There are at least 5 recognized high-tech flower production areas, with a scale of more than 2,500 ha; forming a regional-scale tissue culture seed production industrial cluster, with an output of more than 120 million invitro seedlings/year, of which about 75 million invitro seedlings are exported annually...

By 2050, the flower industry will become a sustainable international value chain, with all flower output basically consumed through modern logistics centers; forming a leading flower production center in Southeast Asia; and elevating flower brands to the top group in Asia.

Concluding the discussion, Dr. Pham S, Vice Chairman of Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee, said that to ensure the effective implementation of the Da Lat - Lam Dong flower industry development strategy, the Da Lat Flower Association is the first unit directed by the Provincial People's Committee to implement Resolution 57, dated December 22, 2024 of the Politburo on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation.

In which, science and technology solutions are the core, the biggest breakthrough to develop the flower industry and increase the export rate. At the same time, pay attention to the selection and creation of varieties, strictly implement copyrighted varieties, encourage the development of varieties from genetic resources in Da Lat - Lam Dong, develop infrastructure to serve the flower industry (flower trading centers and logistics centers; form high-tech flower production areas, industrial clusters for tissue culture seed production, etc.); focus on developing human resources for the flower industry; strengthen digital transformation, apply e-commerce and promote, international cooperation in developing the flower industry , etc.
