Lam Dong planted more than 80 million trees, exceeding the Prime Minister's target by 113%.

Lam Dong has exceeded the target of planting 71 million trees in the 2021-2025 period, reaching more than 113% of the plan, mobilizing more than 408 billion VND in socialized capital.

Surpassing the 80 million tree mark, affirming the leading position

Lam Dong , a province in the Central Highlands region, has achieved impressive results in implementing the Project "Planting one billion trees in the 2021-2025 period" according to Decision No. 524/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister.

With the goal of planting 71 million trees in this 5-year period, including more than 54.3 million scattered trees and more than 16.6 million concentrated forest trees, Lam Dong province has been proactive and synchronous in directing and developing implementation plans.

According to Mr. Le Thanh Son, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Lam Dong, the province has directed the Department of Agriculture and Environment to closely coordinate with localities and forest owners to review and determine land funds for planting protective forests, production forests, as well as land funds for planning urban green trees and scattered rural areas.

Every year, the province organizes the launching ceremony of "Tet tree planting to forever remember Uncle Ho" and issues specific plans for planting trees and flowers to celebrate major events. These activities have required agencies and mass organizations to develop plans, organize propaganda, and disseminate to cadres, party members and all people in many forms, contributing to raising awareness and creating positive effects in the community, as well as integrating the implementation of bright - green - clean - beautiful contents in new rural construction. Thanks to the determination in direction and implementation, Lam Dong province has recorded outstanding results.

According to Mr. Son, by the end of the 2021-2025 period, the whole province had planted more than 80.6 million trees of all kinds, equivalent to over 65,589 hectares, exceeding the initial plan target by 113.5%. Of which, the number of concentrated forest trees reached over 40 million trees and scattered trees reached over 40.5 million trees.

To achieve this success, resource mobilization plays a key role. The total mobilized budget (including money and seedlings) for implementation in the 2021-2025 period is over 408.8 billion VND. Socialized capital accounts for the majority, over 305 billion VND, affirming the consensus and strong participation of the community, businesses and organizations.

“The implementation of the project has mobilized large resources from businesses, communities, organizations, individuals and households, contributing to raising awareness, responsibility and creating positive effects in society for forest management, protection and development in the province,” Mr. Son expressed.

Challenges and strategic recommendations 2026-2030

However, in addition to the achieved results, the implementation of the Project still has shortcomings and limitations that need to be overcome. One of the biggest difficulties is that the land and climate conditions in Lam Dong are suitable for many agricultural crops with high economic value. Meanwhile, the long-term cycle of forest planting, low profits and high risks make people not really actively participate in concentrated forest planting.

In addition, the scattered tree planting activities mainly rely on socialized resources. Accordingly, although the initial planting is carried out by localities and units, the protection and care after planting are still limited, especially for trees in traffic systems, industrial parks and public areas.

Lam Dong province also pointed out that due to the specific weather conditions and limited care and management experience of some commune-level units, the implementation of technical planting measures (such as digging holes, fertilizing) in areas along rural roads or in the campus of headquarters and schools has not been carried out according to technical procedures, leading to slow growth of trees. Moreover, the mobilization of social resources from contributions and responses from people is still limited, not fully utilizing the resources of the entire population, and at the same time, localities and units have not updated maps and diagrams of tree planting locations according to instructions.

However, from the high efficiency that the project has brought, Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee proposed that the Prime Minister continue to implement the project "Planting one billion trees" for the period 2026-2030, in order to maintain and further promote the achievements in forest development and environmental protection in the area.
