Clarifying the case of unusual rice suspected to be fake rice in Hau Giang

(CTO) - On May 22, the Market Management Department of Can Tho City said that, under the direction of the Department of Industry and Trade of Can Tho City, the Market Management Department of Can Tho City coordinated with the Department of Fisheries, Quality, Processing and Market Development of Can Tho City; Team 5 - Economic Police Department, Can Tho City Police and Can Tho Technical Center for Standards, Metrology and Quality to inspect a rice trading enterprise in Ninh Kieu District.

The delegation took samples of "One batch of red Hong Dan" rice at the enterprise's warehouse to send to the authorities for testing and quality assessment according to regulations.

The inspection aims to clarify information from the case of a rice business in Hoa An commune, Phung Hiep district, Hau Giang province, where a local household reported that the rice on the packaging labeled "A red bunch of Hong Dan" with the bee brand purchased at this business had an unusual problem. The owner of the rice business in Hau Giang said that this type of rice was purchased from a rice business in Ninh Kieu district, Can Tho city.

Upon inspection, the inspection team noted that in the warehouse of this enterprise, there were 200 bags of rice (25kg/bag) with the packaging labeled “A red bunch of Hong Dan” branded as bee. The product was identified as the same type of rice discovered by the interdisciplinary inspection team on food safety and hygiene of Hau Giang province. The representative of this rice trading enterprise also confirmed that this was the type of rice that the enterprise sold to the above-mentioned rice trading establishment.

During the verification process, the enterprise declared that this type of rice originated from India, with full legal invoices and documents for imported goods. However, the enterprise's arbitrarily decanting from 50kg bags (imported prototype products) into 25kg bags (the enterprise's bags) showed signs of violating regulations on product labeling, and it was unable to present self-declaration documents as prescribed.

To clarify the unusual issue of this type of rice as reported by the people and recorded by the interdisciplinary inspection team on food safety and hygiene in Hau Giang province, the inspection team of the Market Management Department of Can Tho City has taken rice samples to send to the authorities for testing and quality assessment according to regulations. The incident is being further verified and handled by the interdisciplinary inspection team of Can Tho City according to regulations.
