Spreading the spirit of compassion

- Bearing the noble mission of providing timely support to those in difficult circumstances and vulnerable individuals, Red Cross and Red Crescent volunteers are at the forefront of spreading the spirit of compassion. To remember and honor those who work in humanitarian aid around the world, May 8th has been chosen as International Red Cross and Red Crescent Day.

The Chairman of the Provincial Red Cross Society encouraged people to participate in blood donation in Yen Son district.

In Tuyen Quang , aiming to spread the spirit of compassion in the community, over the years, the Provincial Red Cross Society has effectively played the role of a bridge between benefactors and philanthropists and those in difficult circumstances. Many humanitarian and charitable programs and activities have been organized, profoundly demonstrating the spirit of "working together for humanity," and "for everyone, everywhere" of the entire community.

2024 was a landmark year for the Provincial Red Cross Society. With a proactive, flexible, and decisive approach, the Society implemented many practical programs, such as emergency relief for people affected by the aftermath of Typhoon No. 3; coordinating the construction of charitable houses; organizing gift-giving activities; providing free medical examinations and treatment; and implementing sustainable livelihood support models. Through these efforts, the Society contributed to ensuring social security in the province.

Thanks to timely activities and practical approaches, the "mutual support and compassion" movement has spread widely throughout the province. According to Mr. Nguyen Hoang Long, Chairman of the Provincial Red Cross Society, over 100,000 people in difficult circumstances, people in remote areas, ethnic minority communities, poor students, and disabled children have received timely assistance.

Over 500 tons of essential goods, daily necessities, rescue equipment, medical supplies, etc., were received by the Provincial Red Cross Society in coordination with the Provincial Farmers' Association. During the 2024-2025 period, the Society also mobilized organizations, businesses, and philanthropists to build 107 "Houses of Compassion," totaling over 6 billion VND... These results clearly demonstrate a commitment to a united, sharing, humane, and compassionate society.

Currently, the province has nearly 200 Red Cross branches at the commune, ward, town, and school levels; and over 150 humanitarian models with more than 800 volunteers participating. With a widespread network and a large number of active volunteers, humanitarian models such as "charity porridge kitchens," "safe ferry crossings," "humanitarian addresses," and "zero-cost markets" have received strong support from the community and philanthropists, contributing to spreading the spirit of compassion in the community.

As the movement with the largest number of participants, widely organized and maintained for decades, voluntary blood donation is not only a practical humanitarian activity to save lives but also contributes to educating the younger generation about love and responsibility towards society.

The Provincial Red Cross Society has intensified its efforts to promote voluntary blood donation through various methods, and voluntary blood donation campaigns throughout the province are increasingly attracting large numbers of people to participate voluntarily. Most recently, in April 2025, the voluntary blood donation events in Yen Son, Chiem Hoa, and Lam Binh received over 1,300 units of blood. Voluntary blood donation has become a "humanitarian wave" in society, attracting a large number of officials, civil servants, members of the armed forces, union members, youth, and workers to participate.

With 23 voluntary blood donations, Ms. Nguyen Thi La, a teacher at Dong Tho Primary and Secondary School (Son Duong district), has become an inspiration of compassion for her colleagues and students. Ms. La shared: "Blood donation is not only an act of saving lives but also helps sow seeds of hope in life. Each time I donate blood, I learn how to give, even if it's just a small part of myself, so that others can live."

In the context of the global humanitarian movement, the persistent efforts of the Provincial Red Cross Society have contributed to spreading profound humanitarian values. Each program, action, and specific activity that attracts widespread community participation clearly affirms the spirit of International Red Cross and Red Crescent Day: humanitarianism "for everyone, everywhere."
