According to the preliminary report on the damage caused by storm No. 3 as of 10:00 a.m. on September 10 sent by the Lao Cai Provincial Department of Health to the Ministry of Health , dozens of people have died, many are missing, many people are injured, seriously injured and are being treated at medical facilities.
Initial information about the cases of medical staff affected by storm No. 3, the report of Lao Cai Department of Health said: "At about 5:30 p.m. on September 9, on his way home from work at Ta Cu Ty Commune Health Station, Mr. Thao Seo Pao, born in 1982 - Deputy Head of Ta Cu Ty Commune Health Station was swept away by the water. His body has been found and brought home for funeral arrangements."
Mr. Do Van Trien, born in 1976, an official at Ta Cu Ty Commune Health Station, was slightly injured and can treat himself at home.
Besides the painful loss of life, damage to facilities at medical facilities was also quite severe.
According to statistics, 12 health stations were affected after storm No. 3. Of these, 3 health stations were damaged to the point that they could not conduct medical examinations, with an estimated loss of 95,000,000 VND. Quang Kim commune health station was flooded over 1.5m above the station's floor, and equipment was moved to ensure safety; Thai Giang Pho commune health station had 20m of its fence collapsed; Ta Chai commune health station collapsed 5m.
There are 9 medical stations that were partially damaged, but can still provide medical examinations for people. Estimated damage is 157,000,000 VND. Nam Pung - Bat Xat commune medical station suffered a landslide on the positive slope behind the station, the wall of the sanitary works collapsed, the garbage pit and the backyard of the station were buried with about 30m3; Coc My - Bat Xat medical station: sunk and flooded; Coc Lau - Bac Ha medical station was flooded; Tan Duong, Viet Tien, Pho Rang - Bao Yen commune medical stations were all flooded; Nam Dang - Van Ban commune medical station had 10m of its fence collapsed; Cau May ward medical station and Hoang Lien - Sa Pa medical station were also flooded.
Currently, 3 hospitals are affected, facing many difficulties in medical examination and treatment for people. Bao Yen District General Hospital, on the night of September 9, 2024, flood water inundated the first floor of the hospital about 1 meter high. The hospital had to organize the evacuation of patients, move equipment; protect valuable medical equipment such as: CT machine, X-ray machine.
Meanwhile, Simacai General Hospital lost power and had to use generators for the Emergency Department, operating room, and dialysis room. Bao Thang District General Hospital was flooded around the hospital. Nghia Do and Bao Ha Regional General Clinics were also affected by the power outage.
According to the report of Lao Cai Provincial Department of Health, there are currently 125 families of medical staff affected, all of whom were flooded and eroded by storm No. 3.
Lao Cai Provincial Department of Health requested the Ministry of Health to direct central hospitals to provide professional support in treating seriously ill patients affected by storm No. 3 and its circulation.
At the same time, support environmental disinfection chemicals Cloramin B with a quantity of 2,700 kg; drinking water disinfection tablets (Aquatab 67mg) with a quantity of 3,000,000 tablets.
Lao Cai Provincial Department of Health also requested the Provincial People's Committee to support funding to repair and restore medical facilities affected by storm No. 3 and storm circulation.
