Having been involved in the profession of growing ornamental peach trees since 2003, for many years, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tung, Huu Bang village, Tam Hop commune, Binh Xuyen district has converted ineffective rice fields into a place to grow thousands of ornamental peach trees with high economic efficiency and a revenue of hundreds of millions of dong after deducting expenses .
Taking us on a tour of the peach garden, Mr. Tung shared: “Working on agricultural production all year round, my family’s economy used to be very difficult, mainly growing corn and rice, so income was unstable. Realizing the great demand for flowers from local people, especially during Tet, in 2003, my family and I decided to renovate the land and switch to growing ornamental peach blossoms.”
Initially, Mr. Tung improved the land and planted 100 Nhat Tan peach trees to get branches on an area of over 1,000 m2. Lacking experience in tree care, he diligently researched and learned about peach growing techniques through books, newspapers and went to learn from peach garden owners in Nhat Tan flower village ( Hanoi ). Gradually, with knowledge and experience in care, the peach trees bloomed at the right time, sold well and had good prices.
To meet the increasing demand of Tet peach players, not only planting peach branches, Mr. Tung also traveled to the provinces of Son La, Lai Chau, Dien Bien... to buy peach roots to graft and create embryos. Along with that, he rented more rice fields from neighboring households, expanding the peach growing area to more than 1 hectare.
Up to now, every year his family maintains more than 3,000 peach trees in the garden, of which about 1,000 are large peach trees (over 5 years old), the rest are small peach trees, peach branches. Types of peach include peach, peach, snow peach...
Mr. Tung's family's peach garden of thousands of trees has some trees that are up to 50 - 60 years old.
To take good care of the peach trees, each crop, he hires 3 main workers and 10 seasonal workers to work in cycles of care, pruning and shaping the trees , focusing on the 20 days before Tet.
During Tet, peach branches and peach trees under 5 years old are sold for several hundred thousand to several million dong. Old peach trees cost tens of millions of dong, depending on customers' needs, they can choose to buy or rent for Tet.
However, taking care of old peach trees is very meticulous, requiring the grower to have a lot of experience to take care of them, so most of them will rent the trees. The price of renting old peach trees ranges from 3 million VND/tree.
After many years of growing peach trees, Mr. Tung is no longer worried about the market because he has a stable customer base. Every year, at the beginning of the 12th lunar month, wholesalers in the province and neighboring areas come to deposit money to buy peach trees, then bring them to sell in all the markets in Vinh Yen city, Phuc Yen city, Huong Canh town...
He calculated that with thousands of peach trees, both for sale and for rent, he earns an average profit of 300 million VND or more each year.
Growing ornamental peach trees for Mr. Tung's family is much more effective than growing rice as before. However, growing peach trees depends a lot on weather factors, and every year the soil must be renovated and replaced to ensure adequate nutrition for the trees. Depending on the growth of the tree, before Tet, the amount of fertilizer must be reduced or stopped to limit the growth of the trunk and leaves so that the peach trees bloom in time for Tet.
Mr. Tung added: “The weather forecast is that the weather will turn cold near Tet , so peach blossoms will bloom beautifully and retain their buds, and flower lovers will be able to see fresh flowers during Tet. At this time, many agencies and units have been busy coming to order or rent peach trees. After Tet, they will send them back to the garden for care so that next year they will have beautiful flowers to bring home for Tet.”

At this time, Mr. Tung is busy taking care of the peach trees to transplant them to customers. Looking at the peach trees full of buds about to bloom, this year, Mr. Tung's family's peach garden promises a good harvest . win.
