Among the many surprises of Tour 1 of the 2023 HBSF Cup 3-Cushion Carom Billiards Tournament, the fact that Vietnam's No. 1 player Tran Quyet Chien was unexpectedly eliminated from the quarterfinals created a huge shock. Facing Nguyen Anh Tai, Quyet Chien started the game very well and took the lead with a score of 26-14. Then, with a 6-point cue, Quyet Chien increased the gap to 37-20 in the first half of the second round.

In addition to the surprise named Nguyen Anh Tai, veteran Ly The Vinh winning a ticket to the semi-finals was also a factor that made the tournament extremely attractive in the final stage. In the semi-finals, Ly The Vinh made the audience admire when he created a gap of 23-3 against "dark horse" Thanh Tao before finishing with a final score of 50-44. In the remaining semi-final, Dao Van Ly showed his class when defeating "phenomenon" Nguyen Anh Tai with a score of 50-31.

In the final match on the afternoon of April 28, Dao Van Ly showed excellent form when scoring very evenly, including an 8-point cue to lead 31-15 after the first round. In the second round, although Ly The Vinh tried to gradually shorten the gap, he could not make a comeback against Van Ly. The final score of the final match was 50-33 in favor of Dao Van Ly after 35 cues, helping this player become the champion of Tour 1 HBSF Cup 2023 with a prize of 50 million VND. This is only the second time in his career that Van Ly has won a major 3-cushion carom tournament in Vietnam.

Reaching the finals of a highly competitive tournament that requires physical endurance was a huge success for 60-year-old veteran Ly The Vinh, bringing him the second prize worth 20 million VND. Two players Nguyen Tran Thanh Tao and Nguyen Anh Tai tied for third place, receiving 10 million VND in prize money.
Nguyen Tran Thanh-Tao received the 14-point series award for excellence.
