The opening ceremony of the 24th Vietnam Film Festival brought many emotions.

On the evening of November 21, the opening ceremony of the 24th Vietnam Film Festival took place at Thong Nhat Hall, Ho Chi Minh City, with Deputy Prime Minister Mai Van Chinh attending.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ta Quang Dong said that after more than half a century of formation and development, the Vietnam Film Festival has affirmed its position as the most important national cinema event, honoring outstanding works and creative talents of Vietnamese cinema.

With the slogan “Vietnamese Cinema - Sustainable Development and International Integration in the New Era”, this year’s Film Festival not only honors outstanding cinematographic works but is also an opportunity for filmmakers, artists and the public to look back on the development of Vietnamese cinema in the period 2023-2025, towards the 14th National Congress of the Party. This is also the occasion to celebrate the 55th anniversary of the establishment and development of the Vietnam Film Festival (1970-2025).

The 24th Film Festival has 144 participating films, from competition films and panoramic films, spanning many genres: feature films, documentaries, scientific films, animations... These works will be screened to serve a large audience of cinema lovers in Ho Chi Minh City.

This year, in addition to the traditional categories for works and individuals, the Film Festival also has a Certificate of Merit from the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism for "The unit that distributes the most Vietnamese films from 2023-2025" and honors Vietnamese individuals with special contributions to the development and promotion of Vietnamese cinema; foreign individuals with special contributions to the development and promotion of Vietnamese cinema.

The Jury of this year's Film Festival was formed from a team of prestigious film critics and theorists, along with experienced directors, screenwriters, artists and producers in the film industry.

Faced with a large number of entries, the Jury worked urgently, seriously and objectively to select worthy works and individuals to be honored at the Film Festival.

In particular, at the opening ceremony, UNESCO officially recognized Ho Chi Minh City as a Global Creative City of Cinema - a prestigious title under the UNESCO Creative Cities Network. This is not only the pride of Ho Chi Minh City, but also the pride of Vietnam.

This title recognizes Ho Chi Minh City's continuous efforts in developing cultural industries, promoting artistic creativity, investing in infrastructure and film production environment; and affirms the city's great potential in becoming a regional cinema center.

This is also a strong driving force for the city to promote international cooperation, attract film projects, and nurture generations of enthusiastic young filmmakers.

The opening ceremony of this year's Film Festival was guided by a consistent theme, with a magical journey, opening with feelings of gratitude, reflecting on the 23 Film Festivals, where generations of artists have together built a solid foundation for the country's art.

The special breakthrough journey honors the strong transformation of Vietnamese cinema in the new era, with works that are creative, diverse and influential.

Finally, "Journey of Aspiration" conveys the wish for a sustainable and deeply integrated cinema industry, igniting faith and inspiration for young artists on the path to conquering the next peaks of the seventh art.

The 24th Vietnam Film Festival takes place until November 25.
