Liverpool still has money to explode 'blockbuster' Isak

Experts believe Liverpool can afford to sign striker Alexander Isak despite spending more than £280 million in this summer's transfer window.

Liverpool have the ability to sign Isak.

Liverpool spent up to £280 million to bring in a series of new players such as Hugo Ekitike, Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong and Giorgi Mamardashvili. However, the calculated shopping in recent years has allowed "The Kop" to continue to spend money without violating the Profit and Sustainability Regulation (PSR).

For most Premier League clubs, the PSR rules are the biggest barrier in the transfer market. They limit clubs to losses of more than £105m over three years or face penalties like those imposed on Nottingham Forest and Everton.

Liverpool fans need not worry, however, as despite being very active in the transfer market this summer, Liverpool still have enough financial space to make further deals.

Partly this was because the club did not spend big last summer, bringing in just one new signing, Federico Chiesa, for £13m. Liverpool also earned £174.9m in prize money from winning the Premier League, giving the club a huge financial boost.

The above two factors, coupled with Liverpool being backed by a £350m revolving credit line from FSG (recently extended by a further £50m) have allowed the club to continue splashing the cash.

In theory, Liverpool would have an extra £90m to spend under the PSR rules. Even if the club signed Isak for up to £150m, the fee would be spread over five years, meaning only £30m would be booked in the current financial year.

Chief executive Billy Hogan believes it is time for Liverpool to regain their status as true champions by being active in the transfer market.

Goals on the day Liverpool won the championship In the early morning of April 28, Liverpool crushed Tottenham 5-1 at Anfield, thereby winning the Premier League championship 4 rounds early.
