Ms. LTL (born in 1994, from Thanh Hoa) was pregnant with monochorionic twins and diamniotic twins by IUI. From the 8th week, she was diagnosed with acardiac twin syndrome and had laser intervention at another medical facility when she was 13 weeks pregnant.
At the 28th week of pregnancy, she was admitted to the A4 Obstetrics Department, Hanoi Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital in a state of risk of premature birth, monitored for fetal anemia. Doppler ultrasound results showed that fetus A was equivalent to 28 weeks and 5 days, with an enlarged heart, pericardial fluid, increased echogenicity of the small intestine, and signs of anemia and polyhydramnios.
Faced with the risk of serious impact on the remaining fetus due to circulatory overload and anemia, after consulting with the Hospital Board of Directors, Dr. Phan Thi Huyen Thuong - Head of the Fetal Intervention Center, Dr. Do Tuan Dat - Head of the A4 Obstetrics Department and the team performed fetal intervention surgery to medically treat the acardiac twin syndrome and simultaneously transfused blood to fetus A.

After the intervention, the remaining fetus developed stably, the fetal anemia was gone, the acardiac fetus completely lost its nutritional vessels and there was no more twin-to-twin transfusion.
Thanks to close monitoring, the fetus was kept safe in the mother's womb until 32 weeks. The team of Dr. Phan Thi Huyen Thuong and Dr. Do Tuan Dat successfully performed a cesarean section, welcoming a baby girl weighing 1,700g into the world. The baby girl could breathe on her own, had no respiratory failure, was in stable health and was being cared for at the Neonatal Department.
