What is Omega 3-6-9?
Omega 3-6-9 is a synthesis of 3 types of omega 3, omega 6 and omega 9. All 3 types of omega are unsaturated fats and contain many double bonds. Of which, omega 3 and 6 are fats that our body cannot synthesize itself. As for omega 9, the body can still synthesize itself, but the ability to synthesize is not high. Therefore, combining all 3 types of omega together helps us to supplement easily and fully with nutrients when needed.
Omega-3 fatty acids
Omega-3 fatty acids have anti-inflammatory properties and play an important role in heart and brain health. They are found mainly in fatty fish such as salmon, mackerel, and sardines, as well as in plant sources such as flaxseeds, chia seeds, walnuts, and some oils. There are three main types of omega-3s:
- Alpha-Linolenic Acid (ALA)
- Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA)
- Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA)
Omega-3s may reduce the risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease and arthritis. They also support mental health by reducing symptoms of depression and anxiety.
Omega-6 fatty acids
Omega-6 fatty acids, found in vegetable oils (such as corn, soybean, and sunflower oils) and nuts, are also essential for health. The main omega-6 fatty acids include:
- Linoleic acid (LA)
- Gamma-linolenic acid (GLA)
- Arachidonic Acid (AA)
Omega-6 fatty acids are important for skin health, hair growth and reproductive function. Regular supplementation of this omega-6 group helps maintain and significantly improve our cardiovascular system.
Omega-9 fatty acids
Omega-9 fatty acids are found in olive oil, avocados, and nuts. Unlike omega-3s and omega-6s, omega-9 supplements are not essential because our bodies can produce them on their own. However, consuming foods rich in omega-9s can still be beneficial.
Additionally, omega-9s help improve heart health by lowering bad cholesterol (LDL) and increasing good cholesterol (HDL). They also help with energy production and improve insulin sensitivity.
