After meeting rescuers, the oldest girl of four children who survived more than a month in the Amazon rainforest said: "I'm hungry."
Colombian television broadcast emotional footage of the moment rescuers found the four children. According to NDTV, mobile phone images showed the four children looking tired and haggard. The youngest was held in the arms of a rescue worker.
Four children from the Huitoto community, aged 11 months to 13 years, were found alive on June 9 after more than a month of wandering in the jungle. The plane carrying them, their mother and two others crashed on May 1, killing all three adults.

In an interview with RTVC, the indigenous rescue team recounted the first moment they met the children. "The oldest girl, Lesly, was holding her younger sibling in her arms and running towards me. Lesly said: I'm hungry," said Nicolas Ordonez, one of the search and rescue team members.
"One of the boys was lying down. He stood up and said to me: 'My mother died'. We told the children that we were friends, sent by their families, their fathers and their uncles," Mr Ordonez Gomes added. According to Mr Gomez, the boy then simply replied: "I want bread and sausage."
Another rescuer said: “The indigenous elders believe that if you see a turtle, you can ask it for a wish and it will come true.” He said his team had encountered a turtle just half an hour before finding the four children. “I told the turtle, ‘Find the children for me,’” he said.
