Long An launches project of 1 million hectares of high-quality, low-emission rice
According to the plan, the Project will be implemented in 2 phases . Phase 1 (2024-2025) will focus on achieving 60,000 hectares of rice cultivation area in the Vietnam Sustainable Agriculture Transformation Project (VnSat) and the province's high-tech rice area. Phase 2 (2026-2030) will continue to expand to reach 125,000 hectares in the districts of Tan Hung, Vinh Hung, Moc Hoa, Tan Thanh, Thanh Hoa, Thu Thua and Kien Tuong town (with 62 communes with 50,800 participating households).
The goal of the Project by 2030 is to reduce the amount of rice seeds sown to less than 70kg/ha, reduce the amount of chemical fertilizers and chemical pesticides by 30%, and reduce the amount of irrigation water by 20% compared to traditional farming. In addition, post-harvest losses are less than 8%; 100% of straw in specialized areas is collected from the fields and processed for reuse; greenhouse gas emissions are reduced by more than 10% compared to traditional rice farming; the profit margin of rice farmers is more than 50%.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee - Nguyen Minh Lam said that although Long An is not among the provinces implementing the pilot model of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, in the period of 2024-2025, the province will proactively base on the content of the pilot models implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in the past to issue a plan to implement 33 pilot models (each model from 15-20 hectares). In which, the province selected Tan Tay Hamlet 1 Cooperative, Tan Tay Commune, Thanh Hoa District to implement the pilot model with a scale of 15 hectares in 2 crops: Winter-Spring crop 2024-2025 and Summer-Autumn crop 2025.
“The objective of the pilot model is to identify and scientifically evaluate the benefits of rice cultivation according to the criteria of the Project “ Sustainable development of 1 million hectares of high-quality and low-emission rice cultivation associated with green growth ” in Long An province. Thereby, it will serve as a basis for replication in the coming time” - Mr. Nguyen Minh Lam emphasized.
Tan Tay Hamlet 1 Cooperative has signed a cooperation agreement with an enterprise to guarantee output.
At the launching ceremony, Tan Tay Hamlet 1 Cooperative signed a cooperation agreement with MTK Huu Thanh Joint Stock Company; Tu Sang One Member Co., Ltd. and an output-consuming enterprise.

Before that, delegates visited a demonstration model of high-quality rice cultivation to reduce emissions using a border-effect seeder and burying fertilizer at Tan Tay Hamlet 1 Cooperative, Tan Tay Commune, Thanh Hoa District./.
