K-pop idol Rosé (Blackpink) recently released her first full solo album, titled "rosie," which includes 12 songs.

This includes two previously released songs, “APT.” and “Number One Girl,” and ten new songs: “3 PM,” “Two Years,” “Toxic Till the End,” “Drinks or Coffee,” “Gameboy,” “Stay a Little Longer,” “Not the Same,” “Call It the End,” “Too Bad for Us,” and “Dance All Night.”

According to the Korea Times, the album "rosie" marks a shift not only from familiar Kpop patterns but also from Blackpink's musical range.

Fans expecting tracks similar to the previous single “APT.” (featuring Bruno Mars) might be surprised, as this album is largely reminiscent of “Number One Girl.”

Unlike typical Kpop hits that focus on choreography, the album "rosie" mainly features introspective ballads, showcasing Rosé's most genuine emotions.

The album is inspired by the idol's personal experiences, such as facing difficulties as a Kpop trainee, the pressure of hateful comments, and especially the pain of being caught in a love triangle. toxic relationship in the past.

The overall atmosphere of the album is melancholic and poignant. Therefore, "APT." was unexpectedly met with indifference from fans after they listened to the entire album.

According to many, "APT." with its cheerful pop-rock style is completely out of place on the album. Many listeners said the song made them "lose their emotional connection," and they created a new playlist to remove "APT." from the album, to fully experience the pain of heartbreak.

However, another opinion suggests that, if one considers the entire story Rosé tells through the album "rosie," including "APT." in this album is still acceptable.

The song revolves around two people having fun at a party and flirting with each other. This could also be seen as part of Rosé's past relationship.

On the other hand, given the previous success of "APT.", including the song in the album gives Rosé a huge advantage.

On the album's release date (December 6th), "APT." returned to the top of the global Spotify charts, with over 10 million streams.

“APT.” contributed significantly to the album “rosie” achieving 28 million first-day streams on the global Spotify charts (9 tracks charted), making it the second-highest debut album streamed by a Kpop solo artist after Jungkook (BTS), and the highest-streamed debut album by a Kpop artist in 2024.

To date, “APT.” continues to maintain around 9-10 million streams per day and has held the number 1 spot on both the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. US charts for the seventh consecutive week.

"APT." has set a great precedent, making Rosé the K-pop artist with the highest monthly listenership on Spotify, reaching a record 62 million listeners as of December 10th.
