According to talkSPORT , Manchester United's management has begun contacting Mainoo's agent and is optimistic about reaching an agreement before the 2026 World Cup. The midfielder, who came through the MU academy, is currently under contract until 2027.
Mainoo currently earns around £25,000 per week. However, Manchester United are reportedly willing to offer him a six-figure salary (at least £100,000 per week). This offer, at least four times his current income, is seen as a move to retain the young talent at Old Trafford.
Under interim manager Michael Carrick, Mainoo started all three of Manchester United's consecutive wins. The 20-year-old midfielder's presence brought rhythm, stability, and control to the midfield – something Manchester United had clearly lacked under Ruben Amorim.
At the start of the season, he only started once, in the League Cup match against Grimsby. His relationship with Amorim even reportedly reached a breaking point in December, when his brother Jordan Mainoo-Hames appeared in the stands wearing a shirt that read "Free Mainoo".
However, the situation has now changed as Mainoo has solidified his place in the starting lineup. Mainoo's resurgence under Carrick was not unexpected. Carrick himself once shared that it's perfectly normal for a young player to decline or lose their place, while emphasizing the importance of patience and belief.
For Mainoo, that is paying off at the right time and in the right way, at a time when MU desperately needs new key players to build for the future.
