FIFA has recently announced a list of more than 60 clubs banned from transferring players due to unresolved financial disputes and rule violations. Notably, nine of these clubs are from Malaysia, including two teams in the national championship, Terengganu and Kelantan.

According to FIFA's penalty, Malaysia's top club Terengganu has been banned from participating in transfer activities for 3 years (from April this year). The club is facing a financial crisis and many other related problems (such as unpaid player salaries). FIFA's penalty has further deepened Terengganu's crisis.
Even if the situation is not resolved, Terengganu risks leaving the Malaysian national championship or even disbanding.
At least two clubs have already rejected their bids to participate in the 2024/25 Malaysian Premier League (meaning they have decided to drop out), forcing the organisers to extend the deadline for clubs to confirm their participation in the new season, which is scheduled to start in August.
Malaysian media are concerned about a chain reaction. The Malaysian national championship could be reduced from 13 teams to 10 teams or even 8 teams. This will directly affect Malaysian players as they prepare for the match against the Vietnamese team. They will not even know their future next season.

To solve the immediate problem, the Malaysian Football Federation is actively naturalizing players. They follow the Indonesian model of using naturalized players to solve the immediate problem of performance.
According to the schedule, the Vietnamese team will face Malaysia in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers on June 10. This is a "final" match that will directly decide the tickets to participate in the number one Asian tournament at the national team level of the two teams.
