From local to starred products
Entering the OCOP product introduction and sales point of Tinh Nhung Private Enterprise in Mau A Commune, everyone is impressed by the spacious space filled with the scent of cinnamon. On the display shelves, many products made from cinnamon and local medicinal plants are beautifully arranged.

Taking advantage of the large cinnamon and medicinal material area, Tinh Nhung Private Enterprise has developed 5 OCOP products, of which 3 products are being evaluated as having the potential to meet the 5-star OCOP standards at the national level, including: Dai Phu An cinnamon essential oil, Dai Phu An vegetable essential oil and Dai Phu An lemongrass essential oil.
This is a proud step not only for the enterprise but also for Mau A commune on the journey to elevate the brand of local agricultural products.
“To ensure product quality, we have built a 10-hectare raw material area, grown according to VietGap standards; and are currently building a GMP-standard factory. The 5-star rated products have been on the market for 15 years and are expected to be exported to all 50 states in the US.”

Not only Tinh Nhung private enterprise, many enterprises in Mau A commune are also gradually succeeding in developing OCOP products.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hanh - owner of Phuong Nhung Private Enterprise said that the enterprise currently has 12 products from cinnamon, lemongrass... of which 3 products have achieved 3-star OCOP. Ms. Hanh added: "The enterprise plans to complete the registration dossier for cinnamon essential oil products, cinnamon handicrafts and cinnamon shavings. We can also make cinnamon agarwood products and recently, a pillow product from cinnamon leaves."

The program "One Commune One Product" has breathed new life into Mau A commune, awakening the rural economic potential and the spirit of legitimate enrichment of the people here.
Up to now, Mau A commune has 22 products meeting OCOP standards of 3 stars or higher, affirming its position as one of the bright spots in agricultural product development of Lao Cai province.
Improve quality - reach further into the market
As one of the units with the most OCOP-standard products in Mau A commune, Que Van Yen Cooperative sells to the market on average about 1,000 liters of cinnamon essential oil and lemongrass essential oil each year; over 12,000 liters of cinnamon floor cleaner, lemongrass and cinnamon dishwashing liquid; about 2,500 jars of cinnamon toothpicks, and many other cinnamon products.
Showing us around the cinnamon toothpick jar workshop (one of the 7 OCOP-standard products of the cooperative), Mr. Dang Cong Long - Director of the Van Yen Cinnamon Cooperative shared: "In parallel with improving product quality, the cooperative also promotes transactions on major e-commerce platforms. Currently, the cooperative is creating stable jobs for 7 local workers with stable income."

After being established on the basis of merging 5 administrative units, Mau A commune has 6,381 hectares of cinnamon, along with many areas of raw material plants such as lemongrass, Solanum procumbens...
In order for OCOP products to not only stop at star rating but also be a direction for sustainable development, Mau A commune has promoted propaganda, mobilization and directed specialized departments to guide people to build concentrated raw material areas and produce in an organic direction. At the same time, forming value chains from production, processing to product consumption.
Along with that, encourage entities to promote digital transformation in promoting, introducing and putting OCOP products on e-commerce platforms to build brands and expand consumer markets.

Mr. Tran Xuan Phung - Head of the Economic Department of Mau A commune said: "Currently, OCOP products of Mau A commune are all packaged, have clear packaging and labels; many products have stamps and QR codes to trace their origin. Thanks to promoting through online sales channels, many products have been sold in stores nationwide and exported."
Prosperity from the OCOP program
From familiar products of the mountains and forests, the people of Mau A commune today have created products bearing the OCOP brand of their homeland.
New houses are built, concrete roads lead straight to each hamlet, and people's lives are increasingly prosperous. These achievements are vivid proof of the right direction in rural economic development associated with the "One Commune One Product" program.


In the packaging workshop of Que Phat Herbal Tea Company, Ms. Le Thi Van quickly put each cinnamon tea package into a box, unable to hide her joy: "I have been with the company for more than 6 years, my job is stable, and my income is good. I am very proud to participate in the processing stages from cinnamon raw materials from my hometown, so I am very proud that many people trust and use the product."
“In 2025, in addition to the 3 products that are completing procedures to be evaluated at the 5-star national level, the commune will focus on guiding the subjects to complete the evaluation dossier and develop 3 more OCOP products, including: Dai Phu An hand sanitizer, Dai Phu An floor cleaner and cinnamon incense from the heart.
Developing OCOP products is not only a story of economic development but also a journey to affirm the bravery of the people of Mau A commune who dare to think, dare to do, and rise up from the local potential and strengths. At the same time, it clearly demonstrates the accompanying role of the Party Committee and the government with the people in socio-economic development. Thereby, contributing to Lao Cai province in completing the goal of becoming a growth pole, a center for international economic trade connection, developing in a green, harmonious, unique and happy direction.
