The former Tottenham boss will take charge of the Blues after interim boss Frank Lampard ends his tenure in the final game of the 2022/23 season, when Chelsea draw 1-1 with Newcastle at Stamford Bridge.
Before signing Pochettino, Chelsea had negotiated with Luis Enrique and Julian Nagelsmann. However, both coaches withdrew when they were not satisfied with the team's transfer policy.
Pochettino has been unemployed since leaving Paris Saint Germain (PSG) at the end of the 2021/22 season. After weeks of negotiations, he reached a verbal agreement with Chelsea two weeks ago and will now officially lead the London team.
The Argentine tactician is expected to bring his familiar backroom staff to Stamford Bridge. His coaching team includes assistant coaches Jesus Perez, Toni Jimenez, Miguel D'Agostino and son Sebastiano Pochettino.
Pochettino managed Tottenham from 2014-2019, leading the team to the Champions League final in his final season in charge. He then spent 18 months at PSG, winning Ligue 1, the French Cup and the French Super Cup.
Mauricio Pochettino will be the second manager to be signed by new owners Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital after eight months of failure with Graham Potter. Boehly had previously sacked Thomas Tuchel, who won the Champions League under former owner Roman Abramovich.
Coach Frank Lampard was appointed as interim coach after Potter was sacked and achieved the worst performance in the club's history, when he only helped Chelsea win one, draw two, and lose eight in 11 matches in charge.
