Promoting cooperation and exchange between Vietnam and Sichuan province, China

Vietnamese Consul General in Chongqing Bui Nguyen Long met with Director of the Foreign Affairs Office of Sichuan Province Zhang Tao on June 24.

At the meeting, Consul General Bui Nguyen Long expressed his honor to assume the position of the first Consul General of Vietnam in Chongqing, with the consular area including Chongqing city and Sichuan province in the context of the good development of the relationship between the two Parties and the two countries of Vietnam and China.

In particular, the friendly cooperation between localities of Vietnam and Sichuan tends to develop strongly and comprehensively in all fields. Vietnam is the largest trading partner of Sichuan province in ASEAN and ASEAN is the largest trading partner of Sichuan globally. The two sides have established many direct flights, more and more Vietnamese students choose to study in Sichuan, the potential and space for cooperation between the two sides is still very large.

Consul General Bui Nguyen Long emphasized that Sichuan is a province with a rich culture and history of China and a locality with a long-standing friendly relationship with Vietnam. The establishment of the Consulate General with consular scope including Sichuan province demonstrates the importance that the Party and Government of Vietnam attach to developing friendly and cooperative relations with Sichuan.

On that basis, Consul General Bui Nguyen Long suggested that the two sides closely coordinate, promote friendly exchanges, and mutually beneficial cooperation between Vietnam and Sichuan to develop more strongly and effectively in the coming time. In particular, promote high-level and all-level exchanges; strengthen economic , trade and investment cooperation; promote people-to-people exchanges, cultural and tourism cooperation; and make practical contributions to the development of the Vietnam-China Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership.

The two sides had in-depth exchanges and reached many common perceptions on promoting cooperation between Vietnam and Sichuan province.

Director of the Sichuan Provincial Foreign Affairs Office Zhang Tao warmly congratulated Mr. Bui Nguyen Long on his appointment as Consul General of Vietnam in Chongqing. Ms. Zhang Tao affirmed that the Sichuan Provincial Government will closely coordinate and create favorable conditions for the Consulate General to successfully fulfill its mission as a bridge for cooperation and exchange between Sichuan and Vietnamese localities.

Agreeing with the assessments and recommendations to promote exchanges and cooperation of Consul General Bui Nguyen Long, Director of the Foreign Affairs Office of Sichuan Province Truong Dao said that Sichuan ranks 3rd in China in terms of the number of Consulates General (after Shanghai and Guangdong), 4th in terms of population, 5th in terms of area and GDP. Sichuan is also a large economic province and a traffic hub in the western region of China; leading in many fields such as manufacturing industry, industry development, historical and cultural heritage,education , etc.

Expressing great importance to relations with Vietnam, the Sichuan provincial government affirmed its readiness to closely coordinate with the Consulate General to promote cooperation and exchanges between Sichuan province and Vietnamese localities to continuously develop in the coming time.
