The incident was the first known encounter between a drone and an unidentified flying object (UFO). The US military has since renamed the phenomenon an unexplained anomaly (UAP).

Speaking about the video during a Senate hearing, Sean Kirkpatrick, director of the Pentagon's All-Domain Anomaly Operations Office (AARO), said the "metallic sphere" seen by a military drone had similar activities to other similar objects spotted in the area.
Kirkpatrick did not rule out that the sphere could be “adversary breakthrough technology”, but admitted its speed and design were impressive, while also admitting that it could be classified as “known objects or phenomena” or “extraterrestrial”.
AARO was created in July 2022 with the goal of integrating all elements of the US Department of Defense and other federal agencies to detect, identify and classify “anomalous objects, unidentified aerial, aerial, underwater and other unknown moving objects”. The unit was established following a US Senate bill requiring the country’s intelligence agencies to disclose information about “unidentified aerial phenomena”.
