The turning point came in the 65th minute when Real were awarded a penalty after a foul by Hugo Rincon. Mbappe finished accurately, bringing the match back to balance. The final minutes witnessed the resilience of Real's defense against high pressure from Girona.
The match ended 1-1, causing Real Madrid to lose the top spot in La Liga to Barcelona, falling just 1 point behind their arch-rivals.
