“My mother has been a primary school teacher for 30 years, and she knows how to use ChatGPT to create illustrative data to make slides more vivid,” said Nguyen Dang Son Lam, a data science expert at VNPT AI, at the exchange event to launch Vietnam Talent 2025.
Citing the story of his mother, Mr. Lam emphasized that the learning process should never stop and that young people need to adapt to new technology.
Faced with the opportunities and challenges that the AI wave brings to the world , especially in the technology sector, which is witnessing a series of layoffs from major technology companies, many students are confused about the career opportunities ahead.
Understanding the concerns of the younger generation, experts and scientists present at the forum spent a lot of time discussing and analyzing the positive and negative aspects of AI from both theoretical and practical perspectives and providing guidance on appropriate approaches based on practical experience.

Accordingly, thanks to the ability to quickly synthesize from the endless Internet data warehouse, using AI creates a "push" in each person's work, freeing up time, devoting energy to what they are best at to increase value. AI brings opportunities for highly specialized people, for example, financial analysts do not need to synthesize reports but only need to analyze and find useful information; doctors rely on test results and preliminary assessments provided by AI to make decisions and develop treatment regimens.
However, according to expert Son Lam, to reach the opportunities that AI brings, we must overcome its challenges. He pointed out that the most dangerous thing is to abuse AI, losing self-worth. When teaching at a university recently, he noticed a fairly common problem, which is that people only present the results that the AI tool, in this case ChatGPT, gives without knowing what basis or data it is based on.
“Using AI to come up with ideas on the surface is very useful, but if you don't understand the essence and what you're doing, your own value will be obscured in the digital age,” he advised.
At the same time, he also asked the question: Using AI to increase productivity, increase work efficiency, save time to learn new things or just entertain and be left behind?
"Don't trust everything you read on ChatGPT"
Mr. Nguyen Son Hai, Deputy General Director of VNPT Media Company, shared that businesses are "thirsty" for high-quality AI human resources. Job positions are diverse such as natural language processing, image, voice, data analysis. In particular, there is a great shortage of operational personnel, Dev-Ops. However, that does not mean everyone is chosen.
From the employer's perspective, he pointed out three skills that young people especially need to pay attention to developing while still in school: mandatory technology skills, including programming and algorithms; proactive thinking in deep learning and problem solving; critical thinking because depending on AI is very dangerous for both the individual and the organization.

Sharing the same view, Mr. Nguyen Long, Vice President and General Secretary of the Vietnam Association of Information Technology, Chairman of the Jury of the Vietnam Talent Awards, said that everyone has the right to dream of creating valuable products. But first of all, we must cultivate basic skills and on that basis think creatively, find new problems to solve. Any profession, if you want to go far, you must have a firm grasp of the fundamental knowledge. With information technology, that is mathematics, probability, analysis, geometry, logic, combinatorics and especially data science.
“Don’t trust too much what you read on ChatGPT” is the advice of expert Son Lam. In order for intellectual development not to be affected by AI tools, it is necessary to think critically, look at the results and evaluate right and wrong. He calls for using the time AI saves to learn new knowledge, new technology, soft skills, and interdisciplinary skills to enhance value and increase competitive advantage for oneself.
To adapt quickly to new technology, one must be curious and dare to experiment. In addition, a large enough environment to gain experience and develop capacity is also an indispensable factor.
