Messi signed a contract extension right at the construction site.

According to the Miami Herald, after Lionel Messi officially extended his contract until 2028, Inter Miami is planning to honor the Argentine superstar by renaming the new stadium "Estadio Lionel Andrés Messi".

The temporary name "Freedom Park" is just a short-term transition, and this change will transform the stadium into an eternal symbol of "La Pulga" in MLS. This is a gesture of gratitude to Messi - the man who transformed Inter Miami from a fledgling club into a "global phenomenon".

Inter Miami's new stadium is being built at a cost of $1 billion . The multi-purpose project includes a 25,000-seat main stadium, roofs for most of the stands, state-of-the-art LED lighting technology and an integrated VAR system.

In addition, the stadium complex also has an entertainment area with the largest park in Miami. Modern infrastructure includes 5,000 parking spaces, a 750-room hotel, office space, a commercial center and a community practice field.

Messi anh 1

Messi will be a rare player to have a football stadium named after him while he is still playing.

Inter Miami's new home stadium is expected to complete phase 1 by the end of 2025, officially opening for the 2026 MLS season (February-March 2026).

Currently, the name "Miami Freedom Park" reflects the club's "Freedom to Dream" spirit. However, Inter Miami's board of directors wants to change the stadium's name to "Lionel Andrés Messi".

This is not only a personal honor but can also help the club increase its commercial value. Because, since coming to Inter Miami, Messi has helped the club's revenue increase 4 times.

Messi even signed his contract extension at the construction site, a symbolic gesture of commitment. On Instagram, he shared: "Very excited about this new home. Miami is the future for me and my family."

With a new contract until 2028 (when Messi will be 41), he will stay long enough to see Inter Miami's new stadium transform the club. Sources say Inter Miami also plans to unveil a bronze statue of Messi at the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
