High-tech agricultural model in Ngoc Chien

Ngoc Chien has long been known as a "fairyland" with a cool climate all year round and fertile land, very favorable for growing temperate vegetables and flowers. Taking advantage of that advantage, Ngoc Chien High-Tech Vegetable and Flower Cooperative has pioneered in investing in a high-tech vegetable and flower growing model.

Crossing Sam Sip Pass in the chilly weather of the highlands, we came to Ngoc Chien, witnessing the production activities of Ngoc Chien High-Tech Vegetable and Flower Cooperative - a pioneer in applying science and technology in production, creating clean and safe agricultural products, bringing high economic efficiency, contributing to job creation and increasing income for local workers.

Leading us to visit the production area, Mr. Nguyen The Cong, a member of the cooperative, shared: In early 2023, the cooperative was established with 7 members, with a charter capital of 3 billion VND, the main production industry is growing high-tech vegetables, beans and flowers on an area of 7 hectares. The cooperative invested in a greenhouse system to produce vegetables and fruits on an area of 3 hectares. Watering and spraying are 100% automated according to Israeli technology. With this technology, vegetables grow well, evenly, have a short growing time, have few pests and are less affected by climate change, improving productivity and product quality. The cooperative's products are produced according to VietGAP standards.

The cooperative has invested in a systematic drip irrigation and fertilization system.

In the greenhouse area, the tomato beds are in harvest time, with heavy, red fruits. The production process strictly follows safety standards. The land is scientifically drained to prevent waterlogging, and the trees are pruned to concentrate nutrients on growing the fruit. In particular, the cooperative prioritizes the use of composted manure and organic fertilizers, minimizing chemical pesticides, ensuring clean agricultural products. The products are labeled with traceability, ensuring prestige for consumers. With 3 hectares of off-season tomatoes, the yield reaches 150 tons/ha, the average selling price in the garden is 13,000 - 14,000 VND/kg. In addition, 3 hectares of cucumbers grown outdoors also give an impressive yield of 60 tons/ha, with a stable selling price of 7,000 - 8,000 VND/kg.

Cooperative members share experiences in caring for tomato plants.

Without letting the land rest, after each harvest, the Cooperative rotates soybean cultivation to both improve the soil and use it as organic fertilizer on site. On average, each year, the total output of vegetables, tubers, and fruits of the Cooperative reaches nearly 600 tons. After deducting all investment and labor costs, the profit is more than 1 billion VND/year. Currently, the Cooperative's tomato, cucumber, and vegetable products are available at many large wholesale markets and supermarkets in the province and in Hanoi .

Since its inception, the cooperative has created regular jobs for 50 local workers in Dong Xuong village and neighboring villages; with an income of 6 to 11 million VND/person/month.

Ms. Lo Thi Nghen, from Luot village, a worker at the cooperative, said: “Before, I worked in the fields, and my income was unstable depending on the season. Since I started working at the cooperative, I have been instructed in proper vegetable and flower care techniques, mastered pruning and fertilizing techniques according to high-tech processes, and my job is stable, and my income is much higher.”

Discussing the future direction, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Truong, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Ngoc Chien High-Tech Vegetable and Flower Cooperative, said: The unit is focusing resources, expanding the production area to 12 hectares. The goal is to complete 8 hectares of greenhouses by the end of 2026 to specialize in growing off-season vegetables and flowers, avoiding the situation of "good harvest, low price". In the immediate future, the Cooperative is implementing the planting of 2 hectares of high-tech flowers in greenhouses and 1 hectare of cucumbers outdoors to serve the market demand during the upcoming Lunar New Year.
