Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien speaks at the conference
Continuing to implement the Prime Minister's direction on promoting the implementation of trade agreements towards a fair, sustainable and long-term trade balance between the United States and Vietnam, on the morning of May 9, the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment jointly organized the Conference "Promoting trade in agricultural, forestry and fishery products between Vietnam and the United States".
The conference aims to listen to suggestions from corporations, industry associations, businesses and import-export enterprises on the possibility of promoting two-way trade in the agricultural, forestry and fishery sector, including increasing the import turnover of agricultural, forestry and fishery products from the United States, demonstrating Vietnam's goodwill in its efforts to harmonize the two-way trade balance, aiming at the ultimate goal of maintaining stability in the US market, protecting the long-term interests of Vietnam's agricultural, forestry and fishery export sector.

Speaking at the Conference, Minister of Agriculture and Environment Do Duc Duy said that, facing the risk of being subject to a reciprocal tax of 46%, the Government and ministries and sectors have resolutely taken action, actively consulting and negotiating with the United States to find a common voice, bringing benefits to producers, businesses and consumers of both countries. The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment has also had many plans, and issued a Project to promote exports to the United States, emphasizing the following factors: Transparency of supply chains and raw material areas; Application of digital technology in traceability and quality control; Building industry brands based on compliance and sustainable development; Promoting green transformation programs in the agricultural sector to meet the increasingly strict environmental standards of major markets such as the United States, EU, and Japan.
At the conference, delegates focused on discussing and evaluating the production and import of agricultural, forestry and fishery products from the United States; identifying difficulties that businesses in the industry encounter when trading and importing agricultural, forestry and fishery products from the United States and proposing solutions to remove difficulties and promote trade between the two countries.
After listening to the general reports on the import situation, the demand for imported goods from the United States to Vietnam, along with many opinions expressed by businesses, Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien affirmed that the United States is a large market for consuming agricultural, forestry and fishery products from Vietnam, and is also a market with great export potential for cereals, meat, milk, wood, etc.
Conference overview
The Minister said that importing agricultural, forestry and fishery products from the United States is not only effective in the short term (meeting domestic consumption needs of each side, contributing to trade balance and promoting negotiations to achieve the best results) but also in the long term because this is the basis and foundation for Vietnam and the United States to cooperate more closely in the field of agriculture, forestry and fishery in the direction of high technology, circulation and sustainable development.
Accordingly, to increase import-export turnover in the agricultural, forestry and fishery sectors between the two countries, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien said that the Government, ministries and functional agencies of the two countries need to promptly review and remove trade barriers; at the same time, issue strong and feasible incentive policies (such as tax policies, capital incentives, logistics support, etc.) to support businesses and create development momentum.
The Minister also requested that businesses and business associations in the field of agricultural, forestry and fishery import and export urgently connect with US partners to seek more import opportunities from this market. Through the import and export of agricultural, forestry and fishery products between the two countries, it is necessary to seek cooperation with US partners in the field of building Vietnam's agriculture towards green, clean, high value and sustainability, in which, focusing on both production and processing and consumption.
At the same time, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien called on industry associations and businesses to unite, accompany and promote stable and sustainable trade relations between Vietnam and the United States. The Minister affirmed that the Government, ministries and sectors, especially the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, are always committed to accompanying businesses in the above efforts. First of all, it is urgent and resolute to remove technical barriers, open the door for US agricultural, forestry and fishery products, and simplify administrative procedures so that businesses and industry associations have conditions to increase trade with this market.
