On May 20, Zebra Technologies, a provider of digital and workflow automation solutions, released the results of its latest Warehousing Vision Study . In the study, “Enhancing Every Move: The Formula for High-Performance Warehouse Operations,” frontline workers identified the clear benefits of automating warehouse operations and the risks of delaying automation.

According to the study, 63% of global warehouse leaders plan to deploy artificial intelligence (AI) software (63% in Asia Pacific - APAC) and augmented reality (AR) technology (65% in APAC) in the next five years. Additionally, 64% of global respondents plan to increase spending on warehouse modernization in the next five years, with a similar rate of 63% in APAC.

From an industry perspective, Interact Analysis predicts that global warehouse space will reach 3,905 km2 ( 42 billion square feet ) by 2030, up 27% from 3,067 km2 ( 33 billion square feet ) in 2023. Labor spending in the warehouse industry is also expected to increase over the long term, with a compound annual growth rate of 7% through 2030.

As scale continues to expand and daily order volumes increase, feedback from frontline workers in the global warehouse industry from the Warehousing Vision Study shows that industry leaders need to act more quickly to upskill their workforce.

85% of warehouse workers globally (88% in APAC) report that if their employers do not invest in technology to improve warehouse operations, they will not be able to achieve business goals.

74% of warehouse workers globally (77% in APAC) are concerned they are spending too much time doing tasks that could be automated...

Increased e-commerce activity has also made “faster delivery to end customers” (37% globally, 36% APAC) the top challenge for warehouse teams, even amid increased adoption of technology.

In Vietnam, the warehouse industry is also rapidly embracing advanced technologies to improve operational efficiency and reduce costs amid growing demand from e-commerce and global trade. Businesses are increasingly adopting smart warehouse solutions to optimize inventory management, reduce operating costs and improve customer satisfaction.

Many warehouse operators are transitioning from manual systems to smart warehouse management systems (WMS), integrating automation, RFID, and QR code scanning to streamline inventory tracking and order fulfillment. Adoption of 4.0 technologies such as IoT, AI, video surveillance , and big data is also increasing, enabling more accurate demand forecasting, real-time asset visibility, and warehouse floor space optimization.

When employees across the globe and in Vietnam say their lives would be easier if their employers integrated more automation into their workflows, it signals the need for enhanced warehouse solutions,” said Vivien Tay, APAC Head of Solutions for Transport & Logistics , Warehouse and Healthcare, Zebra Technologies. “Automating the movement of materials, capturing data and managing information benefits all parties. Working in busy but safer warehouses with automation means teams can meet service commitments more efficiently and maintain a steady and reliable flow of quality goods to market, improving customer satisfaction and employee morale.”

Warehouse industry leaders believe that mobile AI applications will have the greatest impact in the areas of worker safety, quality control, and inventory management. 79% of them say AI will have a positive impact on the ability to detect potential hazards and provide preventative warnings.

Many global warehouse industry leaders who are planning to implement augmentation/automation say their goals are to reduce errors (71%) and meet SLAs (service level agreements) (70%). They hope automation will improve worker performance and productivity.

“The frontline workforce in Vietnam is often juggling multiple tasks, including mundane warehouse tasks that can and should be automated,” added Christanto Suryadarma, Vice President of Sales , Southeast Asia (SEA), Korea and APJeC Channel, Zebra Technologies. “As Vietnam embraces intelligent automation and accelerates toward a smarter future with longer warehouse lifespans, warehouse leaders need to embrace digitalization, automation, and smart technology to transform their employees into connected frontline workers to enhance operational capabilities.”

Zebra aims to lead this trend with its latest product lines, including inventory control devices and tablets for businesses (ET60 Android, ET40/ET45, MC3400), rugged barcode scanners (DS3600-XR), asset tracking solutions (ZT421, ZT620, ZD421 WiFi 6), RFID solutions (FXR90), Zebra Dimensioning and Vision Surveillance solutions and industrial barcode scanners (Industrial Fixed Scanners), meeting all the needs of the Vietnamese warehouse industry.
