Modric leaves Real Madrid

On the evening of May 22nd, veteran midfielder Luka Modric confirmed he will leave Real Madrid after the 2024/25 season concludes.

Modric will leave the Bernabeu after this season.

In a heartfelt letter to his fans, the Croatian player shared his genuine and profound feelings about his more than a decade-long journey at Santiago Bernabeu.

"The moment I never wanted to come has arrived. This Saturday (May 24th), I will play my last game at the Bernabeu," Modric wrote. "Playing for Real Madrid changed my life, both as a player and as a person. I am proud to have been a part of one of the most successful periods in the history of this great club."

Joining Real Madrid in 2012 with the ambition of wearing the prestigious white shirt and conquering new heights, Modric admits he never dared to imagine the journey would be so brilliant.

Modric expressed his deepest gratitude to President Florentino Perez, his teammates, coaches, and everyone who supported him throughout his years in Madrid. But above all, he thanked the Madridistas for their special affection, who were always there for him, cheering him on, loving him, and constantly giving him applause.

Modric has confirmed that his journey with the royal white shirt of Spain will end after the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup in the United States. Modric's contract will expire, and despite speculation that Xabi Alonso will try to keep him, the veteran midfielder has decided to leave.

Modric concludes 13 years filled with glory with Real Madrid.

"Together we experienced magical nights at the Bernabeu, incredible comebacks, unforgettable titles and celebrations. But above all, what I take with me is the love of the fans. I leave with a heart full of pride, gratitude, and unforgettable memories. I will always be a Madridista," Modric concluded.

At 39 years old, Modric is an icon at the Bernabeu and the most decorated player in Real Madrid's history. In total, he has 28 major titles, including 4 La Liga championships and 6 Champions League titles.

To date, Modric has played 590 matches and scored 43 goals for "Los Blancos". 2018 was an unforgettable milestone in Modric's career when he won the prestigious Ballon d'Or after a stellar season, playing a major role in Real Madrid's double title win and helping Croatia write a fairytale story by finishing as World Cup runners-up.

Modric became the first player since 2007 to break the dominance of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi in the Ballon d'Or. And now, Modric's journey with Real Madrid is coming to an end.
