Modric leaves Real Madrid

On the evening of May 22, veteran midfielder Luka Modric confirmed that he will leave Real Madrid after the 2024/25 season ends.

Modric will leave the Bernabeu after this season.

In an emotional letter to fans, the Croatian player shared his sincere and profound feelings about his journey of more than a decade at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium.

"The moment I never wanted to come has come. This Saturday (May 24), I will play my last game at the Bernabeu," Modric wrote. "Playing for Real Madrid has changed my life, both as a player and as a person. I am proud to have been part of one of the most successful periods in the history of this great club."

Joining Real Madrid in 2012 with the desire to wear the prestigious white shirt and conquer the heights, Modric admitted he never dared to imagine the journey would be so brilliant.

Modric sent his deepest thanks to President Florentino Perez, his teammates, coaches, and all those who accompanied him throughout his years at Madrid. But most of all, his special affection for the madridistas who were always by his side, cheering, loving, and constantly giving him applause.

Modric has confirmed that his journey with the royal white shirt of Spain will end after the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup in the US. Modric's contract will expire and despite many speculations that Xabi Alonso will retain him, the veteran midfielder has decided to leave.

At 39, Modric is an icon at the Bernabeu, and the most decorated player in Real Madrid's history. In total, he owns 28 major trophies, including 4 La Liga titles and 6 Champions League titles.

To date, Modric has played 590 matches, scoring 43 goals for "Los Blancos". 2018 is an unforgettable milestone in Modric's career when he won the prestigious Golden Ball after a sublime season, contributing greatly to Real Madrid's double title and helping Croatia write a fairy tale with the runner-up position at the World Cup.
