Imports of fuel groups (coal, gasoline, crude oil, and gas) for production, consumption, and economic development continued to increase in the first half of this year.
Specifically, in June 2024, the country imported 8.4 million tons of fuel, down 7.7% compared to the previous month, with a value of 2.11 billion USD, down 19.6%, equivalent to a decrease of 514 million USD.
In the first 6 months of 2024, Vietnam's accumulated fuel imports were 47.25 million tons, up 29.9% with a value of 13.88 billion USD, up 14.1% (equivalent to an increase of 1.71 billion USD) over the same period in 2023.
The import value of this group of goods in the first 6 months of 2024 accounts for 8% of the total import value of the country and is only behind the import value of the group of computers, phones, cameras, electronic products and components.
Of which, the amount of imported coal of all kinds reached 33.43 million tons, up 38.6% and the amount of imported crude oil reached 6.81 million tons, up 16.1% over the same period last year.
Imports of various types of petroleum products in the first 6 months of 2024 reached 5.44 million tons, up 4.3% over the same period last year. Of which, the main proportion in the group of various types of petroleum products (47%) was Diesel with the import volume in the first 6 months of 2024 reaching 2.57 million tons, down 8.7% over the same period in 2023.
It is known that gasoline imports increased in the first 6 months because from April 2024, Dung Quat Oil Refinery temporarily stopped production for maintenance, so traders increased imports to ensure supply.
The volume of fuel imported into the Vietnamese market mainly comes from the following markets: Indonesia reached 14.34 million tons, up 60%; Australia was 8.2 million tons, down 23%; Kuwait reached 6.1 million tons, up 23.2% over the same period in 2023.
In 2023, the country imported 74.92 million tons of various fuels, down 29.6%, worth 24.2 billion USD, down 4.7% compared to 2022. The import volume of various coals was 51.16 million tons, up 61.4%; crude oil was 11.19 million tons, up 9.7%; gasoline and oil of all kinds was 10.05 million tons, up 13.3%; liquefied petroleum gas was 2.52 million tons, up 27.9%.
