(HNMO) - As the most translated comic book series in the world , “The Adventures of Astérix” is considered a heritage of French culture. The next three volumes of this book series were introduced to readers in the program “Astérix Festival 2023” to interact with readers.

As humorous and exciting adventure stories set in the wild and ancient space of ancient Western Europe, right from their first appearance in 1959 in Pilote, a weekly newspaper for French children, the two brave and intelligent Gaulois boys Astérix and Obélix by author René Goscinny and artist Albert Uderzo received enthusiastic support from readers.

The comic series “The Adventures of Astérix” was published, translated into 107 languages and adapted into a film. For the past 60 years, the humorous, courageous and well-matched warrior couple Astérix and Obélix have been a typical representative of the French character and have become familiar to many generations of readers who love European comics.

Young readers enthusiastically participate in "Asterix Festival 2023".

For Vietnamese readers, the legendary Astérix is not a strange character. Astérix came to Vietnamese readers in 1998 and after more than 20 years of absence from the market, in 2019, on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the birth of this world-famous comic series, Kim Dong Publishing House officially purchased the copyright and published the series.

Recently, the next three volumes of the series, “The Battle of the Chiefs”, “Astérix and the Normans”, and “Astérix with the Bretons”, have been released. The enthusiastic participation of many young readers in the “Astérix Festival 2023” program held in Hanoi today (May 13) shows the appeal of this comic series.

Ms. Hoang Thanh Thuy, Head of the Science Books Editorial Board, Kim Dong Publishing House, said: “Reintroducing this comic book series to Vietnamese readers, first of all, we hope to pass on the love of Astérix from the 7x and 8x generations to the next generations. Nowadays, manga comics are very successful, but we still choose to publish Astérix because we strongly believe in the humanistic and aesthetic values that Astérix brings.”

René Goscinny is a French comic book writer and screenwriter of Polish origin. He is considered a pioneer of the French comic book content writing profession. With famous works about Astérix, Lucky Luke, Iznogoud, and Nicolas, he is one of the most known French comic book authors in the world with about 500 million copies in circulation in many languages.

Albert Uderzo was a French cartoonist and screenwriter. He worked for several newspapers, creating new characters before meeting Goscinny in 1951 and creating the legendary Astérix together. After Goscinny's sudden death, he continued to write alone, although his progress was slow. In 2011, he stopped writing Astérix and handed the work over to two people: writer Ferri and artist Didier Conrad.
