The Copilot+PC sponsor logo has only appeared on Manchester United's jerseys twice this season. |
The Old Trafford team now displays the Snapdragon logo – a US technology company owned by Qualcomm – on their shirts, as part of a £180 million three-year contract starting in the 2024/25 season, replacing TeamViewer.
For the current season, MU also signed a special deal: the logo of Microsoft's new laptop line, Copilot+PC, appeared on the men's first team's jerseys in domestic cup matches. However, reality turned this marketing plan into a laughingstock.
According to the agreement, Copilot+PC was printed on the back of the jerseys for all FA Cup and Carabao Cup matches. However, MU only played in two cup matches, which was the minimum number stipulated in the contract.
In the Carabao Cup, the "Red Devils" were held to a 2-2 draw by lower-league side Grimsby and then lost 11-12 on penalties in the first round. In the FA Cup, they suffered another defeat, losing 1-2 at home to Brighton, with the winning goal scored by Danny Welbeck.
This is the first time since the 1981/82 season that the Old Trafford team has been eliminated in the opening match of both domestic cup competitions. As a result, the Copilot+PC logo only appeared twice, instead of the maximum 13 matches originally expected.
Notably, MU's training kit currently lacks a sponsor, causing the club to miss out on millions of pounds in revenue. However, the board is reportedly considering selling the stadium naming rights, with the prospect of the "Theatre of Dreams" becoming Old Trafford Snapdragon.
