On the morning of October 18, the Cu De River rose, causing widespread flooding in Nam Yen and Quang Nam 1 villages of the former Hoa Bac commune (now Hai Van ward, Da Nang city). Many inter-village roads were cut off.

In Nam Yen village, there were sections of water half a meter deep and flowing rapidly. Some households had to use sandbags to block their doors and raise their furniture to avoid flooding and getting wet. Many people had to wade through deep flooded sections to get home.

According to local people, the Hoa Bac area has been continuously hit by heavy rains, with water from the upper reaches of the Cu De River pouring in rapidly, causing low-lying areas to be flooded.

Ms. Pham Tuyet (62 years old, Nam Yen village) said this is one of the "flood centers" of Da Nang city, every time there is heavy rain, flood water flows into the house.

"When it rains heavily, people proactively raise their belongings. The water rises quickly but also recedes quickly. The people here have many years of experience in flood prevention, so they are used to it. However, each time there is a flood, it will have a significant impact on people's daily lives," said Ms. Tuyet.

DT601 route is the main artery connecting the city center with Ta Lang and Gian Bi villages, where the Co Tu people live. Every day, there is a large volume of traffic, and many places where rocks and soil from hills and mountains overflow onto the road surface, causing traffic obstruction.

Local authorities have dispatched excavators and cranes to the landslide sites to clear mud and soil. However, according to local residents, if heavy rain continues, the landslides could become more serious, posing many potential risks when traveling on the roads near the foot of the mountain.
