On October 18, reporting to the Government delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister Mai Van Chinh, Ms. Nguyen Kim Tuyen - Director of the Department of Finance of Dong Thap province - said that all economic sectors of the province have grown quite well.
Specifically, the industrial - construction sector increased by 10.52%, services increased by 7.53%, agriculture - forestry - fishery increased by 4.19%. The gross domestic product (GRDP) of the province in the first 9 months reached more than 108,200 billion VND.
"This is the foundation for the province to strive to achieve the annual growth target of 8% or more," Ms. Tuyen affirmed at the working session.
Ms. Tuyen added that production and business activities in the province have improved; industrial production has recovered strongly, the industrial production index in the first 9 months increased by nearly 13%; total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue reached more than 186,000 billion VND, up nearly 10% over the same period.
The tourism sector also recovered strongly, attracting more than 5 million visitors (up 6.4%), with total revenue of more than 3,000 billion VND. Export turnover reached 6.87 billion USD, up 1.1% over the same period despite the difficult global market context.
Investment attraction recorded a bright spot when the whole province had more than 2,000 newly established enterprises, an increase of more than 70% over the same period, of which the number of enterprises returning to operation also increased by nearly 26%.
Dong Thap Provincial People's Committee further informed that as of October 15, public investment disbursement reached VND8,400 billion, equal to 60% of the plan assigned by the Prime Minister, among the localities with the highest disbursement rate in the country.
In addition, Dong Thap also completed ahead of schedule the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses with more than 2,700 newly built houses, one of the outstanding results in social security in 2025.
In his concluding remarks, Deputy Prime Minister Mai Van Chinh highly appreciated the results achieved by Dong Thap and asked the locality to continue maintaining growth momentum and strive to achieve the target of 8% this year.
The Deputy Prime Minister said that to achieve the economic growth target of 8% or more in 2025, the province needs to have a specific and feasible scenario.
Regarding public investment, the Deputy Prime Minister requested the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee to assign Vice Chairmen of the Provincial People's Committee to be in charge of specific projects for close direction, the construction unit must rebuild the critical road; work "3 shifts, 4 shifts", working during the day is not enough, take advantage of working at night, during holidays, during Tet.
The Deputy Prime Minister also requested Dong Thap to continue attracting investment, developing businesses, strongly implementing trade and tourism promotion programs; at the same time, strengthening inspections and proactively responding to natural disasters and floods to protect people's safety.
